Buy far, the best in the (Chromatic) harmonica instruction business I have had the pleasure to own and learn from when I can (As it happens, Jim Hughes' favorite 'weapon' of choice is a particular 'Chrom'. Accidentally, I bought it many years ago but had no idea how to learn to play music with!). That is, the Chromatic harmonica with the push-button on one side to give it more notes than the more simple generally traditional 10-hole (for instruction) C-key diatonic harmonica - for those who did not know the difference.I did purchase this book (it didn't have the 2 cds then), but found it extremely trying to understand or follow. Now, so much better, PROGRESSIVE, and goes it's own (INCREASING) pace with the dulcet tones of it's author - Jim Hughes, (if I'm not mistaken?), at the helm. The product does tend to flit back and forward, but the book doesn't have spiral binding for nothing. If I can handle it JUST ABOUT, then anyone can.It is so much better now. A real pleasure. Buy a fine HOHNER "270" SET IN KEY "C" Chromatic harmonica with 12 holes (Jim's first and favorite), or any nice Chrom. with 12 holes IN "C" KEY, AND this book/manual (with 2 cds) by Jim Hughes, (OR the other way around?) and you won't regret it. THE BOOK WITH 2 CDS REALLY HELPS A LOT!

This book is a very good book for the beginner to upper intermediate.. The first portion has numbers to help locate where to play.. The best way to use it is to learn how to read music .. Jim helps you with that.. The latter parts of this book are better if you can read music.. All you need to know is in this book, to get you to become a very good player.. The 2 cd's are very helpful in reaching this goal.. I have almost all the books available on this subject and find this a very valuable recourse..

Much useful information, a lot of which could apply to most musical instruments. Many, many pages of generic scales. Though I acknowledge the usefulness of the scales and exercises, I had hoped for much more information specific to just the chromatic harmonica. Especially missing were advanced instructions on articulating notes and on vibrato production. The method is very good, but I expected more. Anyone who manages to perform adequately all the exercises with the indicated nuances will certainly have considerable control over the instrument and will have developed the ability to read music well. A few editing issues remain that could be addressed in a future edition. Mr. Hughes mentions what a huge project writing this method turned out to be, and I can certainly appreciate that. The harmonica world stands in his debt for this effort.

I wish I could have had access to this course years ago. There are few quality chromatic harmonica courses available on the market. What makes this course unique is that it comes with 2 CDs (most others come with only 1). Every single exercise is included which makes the course so much more rewarding.Jim is clearly a very accomplished teacher. I am in the process of ordering his additional Essential Exercises books.Do not however, expect Jim's books to perform miracles - regular practice and commitment to study is fundamental to success.

This is the very best chromatic harmonica method that I am aware of.I'm very pleased with this product.Very reasonably priced for the amount of instruction that is provided.Are his two books of harmonica exercises available ?

The only written tuition worth having. But you must practice.

Excellent book for Chromatic method. Moving from hole tohole extremely well done.
