Purchased over ceramic and stainless steel.
I searched for weeks for the perfect compost kitchen bin and then took the time to deliberate my purchase. I prefer a good-quality stainless steel, dishwasher-safe metal, since recycling is more efficient than plastic, but chose this one instead. (You never know what you'll need to send off to recycling one day!) Most of the other kitchen bins are only one gallon, this one is three with the option to conveniently hang on a cabinet door. I thought I would regret buying it since it wasn't the look I had been pining after either, but it's still cute. I do like it! The company is also very professional. I now have the name of a contact person. The company is based out of Portland, Oregon, one of the greenest cities in the US that offer weekly compost curbside pickup. I don't live in Oregon, but I like to hear about eco-ethical cities. My city doesn't even offer curbside recycling.

I miss my stainless steel bucket, but this is great for the price and is all you can ask of a plastic bin.
Plastic is plastic. I had a stainless compose bin but it got a hole (children banging it around). I got this because it's less expensive and held more. I'm happy all in all. It takes extra attention to latch the lid. I miss the stainless steel lid that just set on top and was already "down" and not letting in bugs. I forget to make sure the latch is hooked and get bugs and smells. No problem when I latch it though.I wish the lid wasn't such a bother when dumping it. We have to dump it several times a week (big family eating a lot of fresh food). So I give it 4 stars just for user friendly features lacking a bit.For what it is - it's not bad at all.

Function but not perfect
I like the size of this composter. It's just about right, allowing me to collect scraps for a day or two before having to dump it.I also like the handle on it which makes it easy to carry. The charcoal filter is also nice for keeping smells down. What I don't like about it is that the lid doesn't come off, which would make emptying it and cleaning it so much easier. Consequently, it is a pain to clean because I have a rather small sink. It would also help if the bottom of the pail was contoured to allow for easier grabbing when dumping. There are pros and cons to all these composters. You just have to decide which of he cons you can live with for the cost of the thing.

When it’s shut it smells fine
It works well. But the filters only last about 2 months before they grow mold. So definitely get replacements for them. The description says they should last for at least 6 months but unfortunately that Didn’t happen. After 2 months the stench comes from the filters and not the bucket when you clean it out. Don’t get me wrong, the bucket still stinks when you clean it out but if you don’t replace the filters then the stench doesn’t go away no matter how well you wash it. I ended up pouring boiling water all over the filters so the mold dies and leaving it open to dry. I’ll see how that works but it still smells. The smell is only when you open the lid. When it’s shut it smells fine

Convenient way to compost
We've been composting for years and switched to the compost caddy so that we didn't have a compost container on the countertop. Installation was easy (I used 3M command strips to avoid screws in our cabinet door) and the caddy has worked well so far. We actually bought a 2nd caddy (without the mount) so that we can wash one in the dishwasher while filling the next one.

The material is sturdy and relatively easy to clean
the only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because it doesn't quite fit in my space, but that's my issue, not theirs. The material is sturdy and relatively easy to clean. I don't use the lid.

GREAT little composting bin! Keeps the smells contained!
LOVE this little bin! I installed it easily under the sink after contacting the extremely helpful and kind owner, who is based out of Portland, OR. This thing can get totally full of scraps and the filters do an amazing job at keeping the smells within it and not stinking up the kitchen. It is a great product, easy to clean out if needed, and I would HIGHLY recommend this to all my family and friends wanting to start composting :)

It's the right size.
Have fussed around with smaller (had to empty too often) and bigger (couldn't lift them or the bags to empty). This is just the right size so the trip to the composter is easy. Tried metal ones, they all rust. So at long last this is the right one.
