Cabin Boy

the greatest film of all time
An epic -- mark it, it ticks the boxes -- set and made in modern times, with the most talented cast of thespians that Hollywood could supply in the 90s.There is nothing like this movie, and yet... you watch it, and it feels strangely familiar. You've been here before. We've all been here before. But... it's so unpredictabe. What's going on?ADVENTURE. We've forgotten. ADVENTURE. BEAUTY. ACTION. WOMEN WITH TOO MANY ARMS. SHARK MEN. ANDY RICHTER. You might not ultimately agree with this movie, but by Neptune, it does not waste your time. Five stars only because we do not have six.

Goofy artsy comedy
I hadn't seen this movie since I was a teenager and it's still a great story. It's even got David Letterman!

A cult classic
It's a humorous entourage of funny characters on an outrageous voyage. A tribute to the annoying self absorbed twit inside us all, and the feelings we share.

Absurdists unite and take over
Cabin Boy is one of the greatest movies ever made. Period. The crazy thing I liked when it came out in the theaters, but now, I love it. It has gotten better with age. Actually, it's genius has become much more apparent over the years, it is a move that was well ahead of it's time and a masterpiece in absurdism. If you aren't a fan of absurdism, which is absurd by the way, than you won't like this movie. It is a piece of art. The dialogue is simply mind-boggling good and probably too complex for the commoner.Chris Elliott should have gotten an Oscar nomination for his very believable Nathaniel Mayweather. I do not shudder when I say 'Daniel Day-Lewis' could not have done a better job. In fact, this might have been the one role DDL would have been unable to play. To sum it all up, if you want to go on a fantasy/comedy adventure into absurdism that is basically a bastardized version of the adventure of Baron Munchausen, Cabin Boy is 'your automobile'.

The single greatest movie ever written
I get that this movie was not understood at the time, but in retrospect it is clearly the best movie of 1994. Sure Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and The Shawshank Redemption were pretty good, but nothing matches the epic story telling, beautiful visuals, and the sublime performance of America’s greatest living actor Chris Elliott. Any of the movies above would have been much better if they had thought to cast Mr. Elliot in the lead.

Anything, to me, from Tim Burton, et al.
Is always worth watching, liking, disliking...

Do you want to buy a monkey?
This Blue Ray is extremely well done. The extras, particularly the long form interview with Chris Elliott and Adam Resnick, are great and explain the backdrop of how the film came to be made. Its a shame that those associated with this movie feel as though it destroyed their careers because it is hilarious in an offbeat way. Its too bad that Chris and Adam weren't given the chance to make the movie THEY wanted to make, because Chris Elliott is one of the most underrated comedians of all time. I would have loved to see movie with Chris starring as "Marlon Brando."
