Ten directionless years after they fled the California compound of a UFO cult, siblings Justin and Aaron Smith (co-directors Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead) felt compelled to return to their onetime community. Once there, they find their old quasi-family prospering-and seemingly unaged-and as the inexplicable phenomena piles up, they realize that there may not be a second chance to escape. Compelling fantasy-thriller also stars Callie Hernandez, Tate Ellington, Lew Temple, Emily Montague. 111 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English. [A] rich banquet of mind-bending weirdness --The Hollywood Reporter Ought to delight those who like having their imaginations tickled by projects such as Another Earth and The OA. --Variety The Endless rewards patience with mind-bending twists and turns." --NYTimes Review: Unique, truly original indie sci-fi/horror film - For anyone who thinks that there's nothing new under the sun, allow me to direct your attention to "The Endless" -- one of the most genuinely original multi-genre movies in recent memory. In this mind-bender, a decade after two brothers escape a death cult, they receive a cryptic message that inspires them (one brother more inspired than the other) to return to their former "home," seeking some form of closure. What they find, however, turns out to be far more mysterious than either of them could have imagined. To say any more would be to spoil much of the film's mystique, but suffice it to say, this is a drama, a mystery, a horror movie with sci-fi elements (or a sci-fi movie with horror elements, if you like), and more. Going in, I wasn't expecting much, but even if I had been, this film would have exceeded those expectations. Wisely using the relationship between the brothers (believably played by filmmakers Aaron Moorehead and Justin Benson), the story unfolds at a sometimes slow, but never dull pace, as various pieces of the bigger puzzle are revealed to the characters, threatening their reality -- and their lives -- the deeper they search. I don't want to oversell this as taste, including taste in movies, is subjective, but this movie is truly unlike anything I've ever seen before, well directed and acted, full of ideas that help it overcome its relatively small budget, and it holds up well upon a rewatch (I've watched it three times so far and will be watching it again with friends). It's the kind of movie that presents esoteric ideas without being pretentious (like so many "big idea" movies can be), and is an excellent movie to discuss long after the credits roll. Good extras on the blu ray, as well, including an informative audio commentary from the directors, behind the scenes features, deleted scenes, VFX breakdowns (not my thing, but some people probably like those), trailers and more. If you've had your fill of Hollywood assembly-line action, cartoon, superhero, etc. movies and are in the mood for something different in the best possible way, definitely try "The Endless." Even if you're NOT tired of all those other movies, you need to watch this film, if only to be reminded that there are still creators out there who don't need the backing of a huge studio to create well-told, authentic entertainment. Highly recommended! Review: Totally different, creepy, awesome and worth repeat vewings. - Great movie, trippy as hell. Will take some a few views to figure it out. Not a casual flick to just randomly throw on. You should also watch Resolution by the same directors before seeing this. Not mandatory, but certain scenes will make way more sense if you do. If you liked Primer, Resolution or Coherence this is for you. I can't wait to see that the writer-directors do next! The movie industry needs more people like them - people putting actual thought and crazy cool ideas into their film. If you hear someone complain that they don't make anything original anymore - well, here you go. WATCH THIS FLICK!!!!!!

Highly entertaining, worth watching again and again and..
The Endless begins by setting itself up as a scifi story about 2 brothers who long ago escaped their fates after fleeing an alien worshipping death cult, before descending into lovecraftian madness through absolutely perfect execution. While most reviews tend to give too much away, effectively ruining the fun of self discovery for other viewers, let me just say its absolutely a ride worth taking. While the advertised plot of aliens or UFOs might lead one to suspect some cheesy over the top plot, what they have actually delivered here is something else entirely. The mechanics of the move are refreshing, strange, and beautifully unique. The horror bend slowly builds, but at a perfect pace once you move past the first 15 minutes of the movie-- which provided all of the critical setup needed to get this plot rolling. Once the plot gets going, you're in for a ride. Highly entertaining, and a real hidden gem, The Endless is stuck on my future halloween must watch horror loop.

Not a bad film but not for everyone
Overall its an okay film that has a b-movie feel. It references Lovecraft a good bit and is a lovecraftian like film. What you should know is that not much happens at all so don't expect something mind blowing. The film had good effects and a great story with good actors just wished more would have happened to amaze me but its left to you the view to have the imagination. Also I gave the film an extra star because Callie Hernandez

Bizarre and amazing film. Highly reccomend it.
There isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said in other reviews but this film was such a joy to watch. If you liked Resolution or are just a fan of low budget, cerebral sci-fi films, the Endless is a must-watch. I must admit I am slightly biased because I loved Resolution so much but I also know people who have only seen The Endless and were just as into it. Seriously hoping these guys do a 3rd film and round out the trilogy. Then again I'll watch absolutely anything they put out.

One of the all time greats for fans of cerebral sci-fi
I watched the film perhaps a dozen times. The story is densely layered, with building suspense to mind-f**k level, then a good though ambiguous payoff (hence the rewatches to pick up clues). Plus the director's (Benson/Moorhead) have invented what I'd call a tangential sequel. The movie is completely self-contained, but watching its preceding story "Resolution" first makes the viewing experience for "The Endless" just incredible. For me, I'd rank it next to all-time great films, though others looking for A-list actors and CGI genius will disagree. This is definitely a Walmart movie and not a Tiffany's. I hope the creators continue producing films set in the world of invisible monsters they've created.

Very good low budget film
i enjoyed it, very suspenseful and drawn out, which is my favourite kind of horror movie. Only gripe is that some of the characters act really strange, like in one scene this guy literally sees something totally alien and indescribable, something that would leave you in awe and hysterics.....then turns to the guy next to him and nonchalantly asks if he wants to order a pizza and go bowling, completely unfazed by what’s going on in the sky above him. (Exaggerating, but you’ll know what scene I’m talking about when you watch it)

Cosmic Horror in Anlehnung an H.P. Lovecraft

Lovecraft would be proud.
This is one of the movies you think you want to see based on the promotion. Then you start watching and think... meh. It's okay. And then it gets you. This is one hell of a ride built with master hands and a definite flair for the strange and disquieting. Half poetry, half philosophical reflection on life and the nature of "normality", half psychological thriller and half mind-bending encounter with the universe. And if you think that's too many halves... then just wait until the movie moves them into perspective. Because just like these baby mobile that makes no sense until they form a picture by being seen just right, some things are hidden in such a way that you might be safer when you see them than when you don't.

There's lots to like...
Co-directors, also co-stars Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead deliver a winner which is a budget production but has a great premise to keep interest levels high. They play two brothers who left a supposed cult 10 years previously but come back to try to come to terms with their experiences and get some closure. The film runs for 111 minutes which could have been too long if not placed in such capable hands. It won't satisfy everyone but it is the type of production which is a bit different to other science fiction films on offer.
