Gets one star only, on a second thought!
I decided to revise the review and downgrade this product. I can't seem to edit the rank to chage it but i can change the text. I am at the point where I have it disabled most of the time because of the way it hawgs resources and slows down the computer. Totally defeats the purpose I bought it for.My original review is below:I bought this due to the good pricing (3 PCs for less than 40 bucks) and the good ratings I saw it get on the review channels (CNET and others).I installed it on two computers so far, and the first thing I immediately noticed the singificant slowdown in booting, connecting to web sites, and email. It appears the program performs tasks at boot up which may lead to web site loading delaying as long as 30 seconds. Also, the second install (second computer) did not work. It caused the computer to crash and I had to reinstall the software completely. I do not know if it counted that install as my third copy or not. My crashes have become more frequent now and I know this is related to the new software somehow.Bottom line, it does seem to catch viruses and spyware well but slows down computer too much, and they don't give you controls to disable certain tasks to speed up operations. May work for the basic user but the advanced user who wants to balance protection and performance will just not be satisfied!

It had bugs, but they have been fixed
Well, I have had this software installed on an old Dell Windows 2000 machine and on a new home-built Win XP machine based on an Intel motherboard for less than a year. I can not say that I have been too happy with the overall performance of this product, but it seems to be working well now that it has the latest patches.By the way, they don't tell you that their version 8 and higher software does not work with Windows 2000. So if you want to run an old Win 2K matchine, don't go for this software unless you can get the last of the Version 7 software - version 7.0.483.000.I had the same negative experiences that the above reviewers had, but again, they are now corrected. My XP machine does run the latest version 8 software and it seems to be working great. My Win 2K machine has to run version 7.0.483.000. and it does OK. Can't really complain about the Win2K machine as it is so slow anyway and is no longer supported by Microsoft anyway.Regarding the reviewers that gave this software a 5 star rating. I find it hard to believe that these are legitimate reviews. I would actually suspect these reviews as being sales pitches from the Zone Alarm folks. I find that this company is a little questionable in how they deal with their customers and their customer service. I have seen them delete negative comments on their software from their user forums. They have never lied (that I am aware of), but I simply felt that they do their best to put a rosey picture on their product. As one reviewer above noted, their Tech Support put the blame on my other programs when ZA practically brought my XP machine to its knees. I also was told to disable my other programs until I found "the culprit". Well I didn't do that. I have those programs on my computer because I want them there. Better that ZA should fix their product, which they eventually did. However, they never simply came out and took the blame for a defective product update.I used to love their free firewall and this was why I decided to try their full service product. Hopefully these bad experiences were just growing pains that ZA is getting past, but they have damaged their reputation by failing to be completely forthcoming with their customers. The unwritten rule of bad publicity: tell the customer about your mistake, take responsibility for your mistake (with a sincere apology) and then take corrective action.

Works great, never had issues, top rated by IT pros
I switched to ZoneAlarm a few years ago after using McAfee for several years. ZoneAlarm has a top-rated firewall (available for free) and anti-virus protection equal to other competitors (Norton, McAfee, etc.). Though McAfee generally worked well, there were a few minor performance and incompatability issues that arose, but the deciding factor was when they changed their user interface from a standard component based configuration (antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware, privacy) to a vague "goal" oriented configuration which obscured control of the components. If you want clear control, the component interface is superior. ZoneAlarm provides a clear interface to the components, just as McAfee used to. I have not had any performance issues with ZoneAlarm installed on WinXP and WinVista computers. One update issue was quickly resolved by addressing content in the user forum. Installation and configuration is a snap, and fine-tuning is available for those who want full control. Though I see many negative reviews on Amazon, these are in conflict with my experience and all the prof. reviews from IT pros I have found.
