Since the beginning, or, well the end of the first movie, POTA has always been about time travel. The author painstakingly follows every "breadcrumb" from every piece of POTA committed to the screen and page to create a brilliant piece of "fan candy." Worth every penny.

This now outdated book covers Planet of the Apes in all media, the seminal novel, the live action and the animated cartoon teleserials, and the cartoon books, even the non English language ones. A must if you are a fan.

I am a long time Planet of the Apes fan. But like most fans, I have always had difficulty figuring in the timeline of all the incarnations of the saga. So I picked up this book. I was originally going to rate this book low. But after personally speaking to the author, I understand what is in here and why. Though dedicated to the franchise as I am, I never read the comic books or the novels (aside from the novelizations of the animated series and some movies), and was unaware of what else was out there. And believe me, there are strange things out there. A lot of corporations who own properties like this are picky on what gets included into the mythos they created. I know Star Trek has a pretty hard nosed guidline as to what can be written and considered cannon. It seems that is not the case in Planet of the Apes. Some of the stuff I read in this book sounds more like fan fiction than licensed product. But all that aside, I commend the author for taking all this stuff, licensed and okayed by Fox, and put it into a logical, though at times inconsistant, timeline. The book is layed out that if you come across a section you don't agree with, you can skip to the entries you are more familiar with, and it helps explain a lot of questions you may have about the films and why certain things were done. So if you are a Planet of the Apes fan, and you don't mind some interesting twists on our beloved saga, I recommend the book. The three star rating is not based on how it was written but on the amazement felt when reading some of the stuff he had to be shaped into the timeline. And he deserves plenty of credit for that. Get the book, read what you like, and enjoy.

Since I cant rate 3.5 I'm rounding up to four. Dont really have anything to add to what the other reviewers noted, other than it would have been nice to have some color inside. The cover gallery towards the back is indeed nice,but wish that the images were a bit larger,and in color, to better appreciate. The book is written in somewhat brief dated journal entries (consistent with the timeline premise), that I found a little bit dry. I was expecting more of a narrative approach, which I think I'd have preferred. No, this is a somewhat dry presentation of the "facts" in chronilogical order as the author has interpreted them. Overall I am still glad to have it in my library.

I had no idea the Apes universe was so vast. Thanks to this book I been snapping up comics, watching the animated series, reading novels etc. It really puts it all in a very comprehensive timeline and everything is referenced. There is even a viewing/reading order in the back. A must have if you are a fan of this legacy. It was published before the recent movies so those aren't covered, but its a small point. In any case by the time you put this book down you will be thirsting to explore this universe so much more, and having a good time too!

I really enjoy the Planet of the Apes. So I knew I would love to read this book.

Great Information on the Chronology of Planet of the Apes.From every aspect to date.

For any devoted POTA fan this is a must have book. Rich Handley has taken great care in creating a timeline that is both immensely readable and thorough. Including artwork from the various comics, novels, and movies over the years, this book includes every detail of the POTA saga and helps to clear up a lot of the questions fans may have had over the years regarding the various plots and sub-plots. Reading it made me want to go back and experience the films and the books again.

Great book for any apes fan, really makes sense of all the contradicting timelines, although some of the problems are overlooked slightly or use guesswork. But still a great addition to any apes collection. I'm surprised this is not an official apes book, also wonder if they will do a revised edition to incorporate new films.

An excellent book of reference for any Planet of the Apes nut such as I. It’s easy to use and cross reference but unfortunately published before the release of ‘Rise’ and “Dawn”.

Essential reading for POTA fans.
