A Musical wrapped around the story of two children who inherit a night club which is in financial trouble. They hire all sorts of different acts including jazz bands, comedians and there is lots of music.

Not Memorable
I'm afraid this one fell flat for me. Not so much with the actors but the story. There is not much depth here at all. I love old movies, but I would recommend The Stork Club (1945) which still gives you the great big band music, but also has a lot of story to tell. Plus Betty Hutton is quite a character with her facial and body contortions when she sings. As for this one, I don't see me keeping it in the queue to rewatch it or looking up the songs on you-tune later like I do with The Stork Club (Doctor, Lawyer and an Indian Chief).

Simple but OK for the collector or buff
Low budget Hollywood night club flick at the height of the big band era, the namesake being an actual Hollywood nightclub. I have found great interest in these simple films that were made from the 1930s til the 1950's. Many are worth passing the time to see, some are terrible. DVD appears to be from a 16 mm film print. Last film of Dick Purcell (1908-1944) a supporting actor who was never a star but left a body of work that put him maybe three notches below that. Him & the music are the main reasons I purchased it. A bit of a Hollywood time capsule.

Good movie for a Saturday afternoon with nothing else to do. It's simplicity was refreshing and Interesting to compare to today's blockbuster hits with tons of action.

I did not order this as far as I know. I was surprised when I was told that I did. I need to work this out so that I don't get charged for things I haven't really ordered.

quality nightclub fun!
I had never heard of this movie but while trolling through the free Prime movie selections, it caught my eye. Not only had I not heard of the movie, I also hadn't heard of the actors. But I did see jazz trumpeter, bandleader, singer Wingy Manone listed and saw the Charlie Chaplin was one of the writers!!! so I thought I'd give it a chance. And I loved it! Just what the doctor ordered; a musical, snappy dialogue, '40s b&w, and a bit of history reflecting how the music scene morphed in the late '30s/early '40s. There are 4 of the top bands of the day, great songs that are fairly obscure but top-notch, and in a final number, all 4 bands play! There's an hysterical song by doubletalking comedian Cliff Nazarro that is a delight. I also liked that it was down to earth; this wasn't a big-budget thing with lots of sig staged dance numbers. The quality of the music is where they put the money; super bands, all 4 very different from each other, with superb arrangements. I'm looking forward to watching this with my granddaughters.
