There is no bubble in the casing and the needle swings very freely. There is no damping, as you might expect if it was moving through liquid. **Q: Is this compass made of clear plastic?** A: Yes it is made of clear plastic so you can see the map details beneath it. **Q: Seller: is needle and the north, south, east & west points luminous (for night navigation)? if not, is there a different one that is?** A: This compass as fore as I know does not have a luminous bit on the needle.
