The way Boney M were formed is now a part of History, loosely this guy goes up to a couple of peeps in a bar and says do you want to be in a band with no idea if they can sing. He need not have worried they could and not only that the tunes they come up with were memorable and challenging real life nitty gritty stuff done with a polish only rarely found on a diamond. Visually the band have always risen to the challenge and vocally these ideals were far exceeded Ma Baker me thinks is a high point in their career up there with the 1967 Georgie Fame's Bonnie and Clyde Rasputin is another it almost makes him likable a rather unfortunate downside of an up beat song The album is very accurately entitled the Magic of Boney M and Magic is the operative word.

THIS IS A CRACKING CD " IT'S GOT ALL THE CLASSICS ON IT " BROWN GIRL IN THE RING / RIVERS OF BABYLON / PAINTER MAN / RASPUTIN . THE COVER OF " BOB MARLEY'S " NO WOMAN ! NO CRY ! IS THE BEST COVER VERSION OF THIS SONG I'VE EVER HEARD ! LIZ MITCHELL'S VOICE WAS TOTALY AMAZING ! THERE IS HOWEVER A NEW NONE RELATED BONEY M SONG WHICH LIZ SINGS WHICH I THOUGHT WAS SUNG MY A MAN ? 10 YEARS AFTER BONEY M - HER VOICE SOUNDS LIKE IT'S IN HER BOOTS ! BUT MY OLD BIDDY LOVED IT ! A CRACKING CD THOU ! TOTALY ENJOYABLE 70s / 80s DISCO !

I used to have this on Vinyl, so when I saw this advertised and at such a good price I could not believe it. It was like travelling back to the 80's; the best bit is the CD version of this album actually has been updated and has more tracks that are just as good as some of the originals; remember "Brown girl in the Ring" "Ma Baker" I could go on....

As children of the 70's, my brother and I used to insist on the audio cassette of Boney M playing on every car journey - how did our poor parents put up with it??!. Now I can inflict it on my child!! It contains all their greatest hits - Rasputin, Ma Baker, Painter Man, Daddy Cool, Brown Girl in the Ring - and so on. Great CD to wile away long journeys, and to bring back some lovely childhood memories.
