I like this DVD-seems helpful.
I got a sewing machine from my husband for Christmas (not fancy Janome). I have attended a class here in town to re-learn the basics. But I still need to know/remember how to read a pattern etc. OH and a special note on this. It is probably best if you buy your sewing machine locally (not online) as they usually have a few free classes to get you started with your specific machine.I am not sure if someone that has never used a sewing machine could learn solely from this DVD. I would look at it as a refresher DVD and a move forward for those who have taken a few classes. It is not going to show you how to use your specific machine but rather highlight the necessities you need to know about notions, fabric, pressing tools, etc. I haven't constructed anything yet but there are some chapters on making specific items (such as a jacket). That would be a good idea before going out and buying some pattern for an item you have never constructed before (like I did-silly me). Hope this helps!

Best Sewing Series
If you are really interested in sewing and I do mean really interested, ... this is the series for you. This is very well done and many of the terms used in real sewing is explained to you in depth. This is a really well informative video made to teach you all that you should know if interested in being a seamstress or just wanting to make a quality garment. It is easy to follow but I would suggest that you purchase all 5 of the series.

Great for any level!
I haven't sewn in over twenty years. With time on my hands now, I gathered supplies, but when I got started, I realized I had forgotten some key points. I bought "Threads" DVD over the others because I remember them covering everything and being straight to the point. For beginners, this series will get you sewing with no mistakes. I like the fact I can always pop a DVD in, go to a particular section and review again. For that fact, I think this series is great to have even if you are an excellent sewer!

Great information.
These are great DVDs. The instructor is very thorough and easy to understand. I bought these as a beginner that doesn't know anything about sewing and at times I feel that the instructor is talking "over my head" but I feel they have given me a great amount of knowledge and I love having them to refer to at any time.

Perfect for a visual learner
This dvd is like being able to go on a sewing retreat with the experts. I am a busy mom so this was a perfect way to give me the confidence to start sewing some clothes at home. I have sewn a few simple things (valances, simple log cabin quilts and projects like those) prior to owning this and have learned so much from this dvd. I will be putting the second one on my wish list!

I am a beginning sewer. I bought and borrowed a lot of books to figure out the basics. This DVD is awesome! The instructor is very thorough and I liked the video animation of how a sewing machine creates stitches. I feel like I have my own personal sewing tutor. I will be buying the series!

This video was incredibly helpful! It shows clear instruction and is great for beginner sewers or someone who wants a refresher or to help with adding on to skills already obtained. Great series, I plan to add the other videos of this series to my collection to add to my sewing skills!

Good Video, but a bit dry
They give great explanations, but I've found myself referring to YouTube Videos a LOT. I am also subscribed to some classes on Craftsy.com, which is helpful. All 3 resources are great supplements to one antoher
