A "must" for the shelf of beloved ACT texts.
Just received my copy of The ACT Approach, which luckily I pre-ordered. Perusing this book and appreciating the way it has been laid out, which gives so much insight to what we do as ACT therapists, coaches, consultants. One of the beauties of this, for those of us who were not trained in CBT, is the way in which it explains CBT terminology and makes it all so rapidly accessible. I also deeply appreciate the very clear and straightforward ways the authors have enlightened us to Relational Frame Theory, which is often offered in such an obscure fashion as to be incomprehensible. From an ACT perspective, it lays out the work in simple, fun ways that lighten the load. The use of the ACT Matrix and Kevin Polk's (ACT Matrix creator) input really enhances the work. This is a "KISS" book and one I highly recommend to both novice and seasoned ACT practitioners. It is a "must" on our shelves of beloved ACT texts. Thank you, Tim and Jessica, for an amazing job.

Amazing Guide + Resource
This was a required text for one of my graduate classes for my MSW. I loved this book. It explained things very well and there are pages within the book that can be used for resources in sessions. It definitely breaks down ACT really well and provides an amazing understanding for what it is and how to include it in sessions!

Essential Reading for Clinicians New to ACT
Gordon and Borushok are both Peer Reviewed ACT Trainers (though Borushok was not at the time of publication), and have written an excellent beginner’s guide to ACT. Readers get an overview of ACT including scientific theory, a tool called the Life Map (also known as the ACT Matrix), case conceptualization, and the ACT hexaflex simplified into three categories: open, aware, and engaged. Chapters on using ACT to treat specific disorders feature sample therapist/client conversations, with commentary. This really helps the reader have an idea what ACT “looks like” in session. There’ a lengthy chapter on ACT with children and adolescents, and recommendations for further study. Those who opt for the Kindle version will still receive the included client handouts and worksheets; there is a URL/link to them at the end of the book. Even if you have read other beginner’s level books on ACT, this is highly recommended.

A Good Introduction
This book provides a great introduction to ACT and I especially appreciated the chapters about using ACT interventions with different types of diagnoses. It is by no means an exhaustive resource but, as I said, gives you a solid foundation with a very practical and applicable approach to using ACT in the therapy room. The only reason I'm giving four instead five stars is because the writing seems like it needs one more read-over from an editor or proofreader - there were some really long sentences with no punctuation, which made it difficult to focus on what the writers were trying to say. A great resource all in all, though!

The Best of Act
Delightful read. Concise yet comprehensive. Concrete yet enables understanding of abstract ideas . A great mix of pictures, examples, and progressive use of ACT processes with various clients who express psychological inflexibility . The best on ACT concepts and principles I have read with specific answers for making essential distinctions in a user friendly way. Have read a lot of books about ACT. This invited me to experience it in a very meaningful way. Learned a lot A great read and the best I have read from many I have chewed and swallowed but this was entirely digested. A new challenge to all who follow ACT as a way of being

An essential ACT textbook
I must confess that I a bit skeptical when this book came out. There are many ACT books out there, and more coming out it all the time Did this book really need to be written? After reading it, my answer is an enthusiastic yes! It is an elegant and simple book, masterfully weaving together ACT's theory with case examples. It is a highly accessible book to ACT neophytes while also offering plenty for ACT aficionados. This is a book I will be reading more than once.
