How to Train Your Dragon [Blu-ray]

There is something about this movie that is so unexpected. Sure it's a contemporary kids animated film...but it hits marks in lovely moments that become unforgettable. it's in the details of the animation, so beautiful, and the story - which is actually very moving.Some time long ago in a Viking land where dragons attack at random, a boy makes a weapon to impress his father. But the boy is also a disaster, always breaking things, not strong like a viking, and so he uses his weapon when no one is looking - mortally - nearly- wounding a dragon in the process. No one sees his feat. He goes off to find the animals and prove his worth. Yes, it is the dragon that captures us, part dog, part cat part horse part... dragon... First we notice the forest trees have been damaged then we see the pit where the dragon is caught. He can't fly! He's been wounded and will die there. But when the boy comes in to. kill him he can't. And when the dragon could kill the boy - he can't either. He is not a killer any more than the kid. And so the boy, inventor that he is, creates prosthetic limbs to try to help the animal fly - after all, he is the one who maimed it. And so he comes to vist the dragon every day.one of those days, as the hours wear on, it feels just. like childhood. I dont know how they did it. as the light changes and the dragon takes a nap, there is a soft theme, a repeated sound, and everything feels suspended and real. When we are so small and the day goes by so slow, suddenly we notice not the clock but the light - the light has changed. in these ways the movie really captured me and took me back to the time of my childhood and his as well. some place a thousand years ago that never really existed. funny how movies make them as real as anything we really experienced.There is a Bad dragon, of course, and our hero dragon must fight it to save the people of the village. The boy shows his father that muscle is not the only strength, and dad shows his son that he can change and accept the dragon instead of killing it. in fact, everyone accepts the dragons. There are some very funny lines in here. Moms breast plate. the guy with one arm and one leg... and the budding romance with a young viking warrior who kicks ass better than the boys. It's a great film for boys and girls and their moms and dads. The music is very good, and helps us take a journey, led by our imaginations, through that which is unchanging, whether in nether worlds or never worlds, where we can still learn that people who are different have the greatest contribution of all - insight. turned out killing dragons was not the best way to the future after all. you can train your dragon instead! - and you can tell them Rickie Lee sent ya.

How To Train Your Dragon is most definitely one of the biggest sleeper hits in recent memory. While the film got great reviews from critics, audiences never really paid it much mind, forgetting it quickly in exchange for more "toddler" oriented animated movies, such as Tangled, Rio, or 3D remade family classics such as The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast. 'Dragon' being a PG animated film tailors towards older kids, but will be just as adored by adults for its epic action and deep and heartfelt characters. So no, this is a not a film made for 3 and 4 year old toddlers who just wanna go and see a cute animals make funny faces. Some dragons can be a bit scary for them, not to also mention the fiery action, so I'd recommend this for at least 6 years and up.The story takes place during the Viking era and stars Hiccup, a small and skinny Viking son of a much bigger, manlier, and grander dragon-slaying father. Hiccup must compete with other kids his age in order to train to be dragon killers, yet this is the classic story of a kid who simply feels different from the others, and figures out a truth about the dragons that no one else knows - that they can live in a good peaceful coexistence. Hiccup stumbles upon a dragon himself, trains with him and soon learns many life lessons using his brain instead of his brawn in order to humble the dragons, in the hopes of proving all the others wrong.The best thing about 'Dragon' is its attention to the characters - there is much time taken to build up the relationship between Hiccup and his black sheep dragon named Toothless. Lots of quiet moments are granted to us making this a very unique film about characters and how relationships grow despite cultural obstacles, really making this a parallel on society in a strange way. This is way different than the usual loud and obnoxious animated family films that rely way too much on impressing the audience with crazy special effects instead of giving them a good story. 'Dragon' does have much action and great effects on its own, but what makes this film work is that the effects are used to guide the story, not tell it. Hence, we get a great character story ALONG WITH all the great epic action to accompany it. 2 for 1, can't go wrong with it. 'Dragon' does not disappoint in all regards; it's definitely apparent the filmmakers put lots of effort into a well-told story as well as good special effects and animation. Moreover, we must understand that this story is not anything we haven't already seen before in a different setting, but the simplicity of the story and its reliance on character actions instead of constant monologues and dialogues granted by movies that simply talk too much and do very little.Some people may be disappointed that the comedy aspect of this film isn't at the forefront. This is more of an action/adventure with some comedic elements simply SPRINKLED upon the film, but the movie is not made to be a comedy. The beauty here is that the story is so good, it doesn't ever matter to the viewer. You'll be too busy "whoah'ing to ever care to chuckle a cheap 'haha.' So no, 'Dragon' won't pull out any dumb and overused pop culture trendy lines in order to be loved by the latest Entertainment Weekly subscriber a la Shrek, nor will you find any sort of product placement nonsense. The filmmakers are here to give you an epic adventure, and on honing in on this goal it is then done incredibly well, you won't really care about anything else. The story may be simple, but since it's told so fantastically, you appreciate it anyhow.This all leads up to an epic dragon battle finale which contains some of the best special effects editing and shot in recent animated film history, and I would have to say on a personal note that seeing action this intense and well directed is not something you'll probably find in any other family film out there. So if you're tired of just being fed little kiddie stories about cute animals walking around in colorful little worlds, check out 'Dragon' for some more intense action that dares to walk on a slightly grittier terrain. With a story full of dragons, Vikings and epic longships, you will not be disappointed.On a technical side, and this is a pretty big point and one of the main reasons that make the Blu-ray copy of this film so appealing. That the film, in a nutshell, looks ABSOLUTELY IMMACULATE. The detail found on this Blu-ray transfer is simply stunning and jaw-droppingly GORGEOUS to any fan of High Definition video. Landscapes are clean and fully detailed, edges are sharp, colors are extravagant, smoke and light are eye-poppingly smooth, motion is flawless. Out of my collection of 130 Blu-ray titles, this would have to be on my top three in terms of visual detail, perhaps tying first place with Tron:Legacy, another epically gorgeous-looking film. I simply cannot say enough good things about how incredibly perfect the video detail looks on this blu-ray, and is way ahead of the visuals I saw in the movie theaters for this film.Now to make matters even better, the film also contains one of the crispest, cleanest, most flawless audio soundtracks I've ever heard. The film runs on the latest TrueHD Dolby sound, and it is well noticed (even though other soundtracks that run on the same system don't sound nearly as good). Every sound is not only audible, from the voices to wind and fire battles, but every single sound is even, smooth and incredibly clean. The music in the film itself ever even borders on overtaking the film, and while the soundtrack score to the movie is great, the general volume level of it is kept at a respectable distance, guiding the film's entire feel, giving the viewer an almost subconscious trip into the world of the Vikings because it never boasts saying "hey, listen to me, i sound really good at the expense of the voices and other things." No, the soundtrack knows its place, as well as all the other sounds; nothing is ever too loud or too low, but there's other way to say it - it's juuuuust right. So just as the video is one of the absolute best I've ever seen, the audio soundtrack is one of the absolute best I've ever heard. It amazes me just how much work was put into making this blu-ray transfer this good.In closing, in terms of blu-ray performance, I believe 'Dragon' should be playing on all retail store tv displays, if only to show the absolute maximum capacity of every television unit they are selling. Yup, it looks THAT good. My hat goes off to the transfer team to showing us exactly what the power of blu-ray can do. Hence a great story, great characters, and stunning presentation make this an easy pick for any movie fan.

Picture quality is a 10. Audio is a 10. Language options included Portuguese, so I am elated. Yeah, very satisfied.

La película llegó a tiempo y en buen estado. La película es una de mis favoritas, con sus personajes entrañables, su historia divertida, sus temas profundos que toca y una animación que hace disfrutarla ver en 4k.

Drachenzähmen leicht gemacht - ein Erfahrungsbericht+ + + vielleicht + + +Im Januar diesen Jahres saß ich im Kino, und siehe, ein Trailer eines Wikinger-Drachen-3D-Filmes warb für selbigen. Nett. Kein Muss, aber man könnte ihn sich mal ansehen.+ + + doch nicht + + +Das Stück lief Mitte März im Kino an. Schön - nur hatte ich immer viel zu tun. Keine Zeit ... dann halt nicht!+ + + oder doch? + + +Stolze 8 Wochen sind inzwischen vergangen, inzwischen schreibt der Kalender Mitte Mai. Der Film läuft noch immer im Kino - dies spricht für seine Qualität. Da ich 2 Tage frei habe, schaffe ich es nun doch, ihn mir anzuäugen. Außerdem regnet es draußen Strippen - damit gibt es einen echten Grund für einen Kinobesuch.+ + + oha! aber... + + +Habe ihn mir angeschaut. Wirklich gut! Eine Mischung aus "Ratatoille" und "Peter Pan" (die Realverfilmung von 2003), tolle Grafik, sympathische Charaktere, herrliche Dialoge, sowohl Action als auch Romantik - es gefällt!Dem Logiker in mir fallen allerdings ein paar Details auf, die das Erlebnis Film allerdings nur ein bisschen störten:- die Story ist bis auf ein paar neckische Überraschungen recht vorhersehbar. Irgendwie kennt man das alles, hat das alles schon mal gesehen.- die Synchronstimme des supersympathischen Wikingerjungen Hicks erscheint schon ein wenig zu dunkel geraten - allerdings kommen die (Streit-)Gespräche zwischen ihm und seinem Vater erstklassig rüber. Spitze auch der zeitweise norddeutsche Akzent - extrem gut: der Sprecher Grobians. ("Heudää - Anngriff!")- alle Schiffe sind fahruntüchtig, um es mal so zu sagen. Wie kommen die Menschenmassen zurück ins Dorf? Man kann es sich zwar denken, aber gezeigt wird nichts.- Ein offensichtlich mehrere Tage bewusstloser Wikingerjunge liegt im Bett ... in seiner ganz normalen Kleidung... mit Schuhen! (Übrigens: der "Vorfall" ist medizinisch korrekt, so etwas hat es schon gegeben.)- Beim Tauchen in kalten Wasser ("...bevor das Eis einsetzt...") friert man nicht!- und endlich: Der Filmtitel ist nicht nur sperrig, sondern auch unpassend. Wenn ich ein wildes Tier zähmen will, bin ICH der Chef, und das Vieh hat zu gehorchen.Genug analysiert!+ + + trotzdem noch mal? + + +Ja, klar. Warum nicht? Morgen!+ + + der zweite Eindruck + + +Die Fehlerchen achselzuckend in Kauf nehmend, versinke ich im Kinosessel, entspanne mich - und der Film beginnt mich in seinen Bann zu ziehen. Wow! Die Filmmusik passt super, die Grafik ist eine Augenweide, die Atmosphäre großartig. Und ich beginne Nähe, Wärme, Freundschaft zu spüren...+ + + der dritte Eindruck + + +...oder gar Liebe?Ich habe meinen besten Freund eingeladen: ihm gefällts, und ich habe zum Schluss sogar feuchte Augen bekommen. Was macht der Film mit mir?+ + + der vierte Eindruck + + +Ich tausche meine Schicht, um ins Kino gehen zu können. Bei den ersten Klängen der Musik, den ersten Bildern schon durchrieselt mich eine Gänsehaut. Meine Seele wird überschwemmt von den Emotionen dieses in Bildern und Klängen gepressten Kunstwerkes. Ist das schön!+ + + der fünfte Eindruck + + +Längst habe ich die sowohl episch-wuchtige als auch anmutige Filmmusik auf dem PC und in meinem Ohr. Und denke ich an diesen Film (und das mache ich häufig), dann habe ich so ein Lächeln im Gesicht, gegen das ich gar nichts machen kann. Großartig!Zwei Szenen, bei denen sich Musik und Bilder sensationell perfekt ergänzen: Einmal die Sequenz, bei der Hicks über die Ast-Kratzspuren OhneZahns "tanzt", um ihn dann vorsichtig zu berühren, und eine zweite Stelle: der erste planmäßige unglaublich wilde Flug ("Stellung 4 - nein, 3.") Großartig umgesetzt mit brachialer Orchestrierung und bombastischen Bildern!+ + + der sechste Eindruck + + +Innerhalb von 18 Tagen war ich nun zum 6. Mal im Kino - und kann emotional einfach nicht genug kriegen!+ + + Fazit + + +Tolle Bilder, eine feine wenn auch vorhersehbare Coming-of-age-Story, prima Dialoge, die berauschende Musik und ein permanent zwar nicht lustiger, aber höchst amüsanter Stil - was braucht ein Film mehr? Ich habe mir den Film vor einigen Tagen bestellt und habe ihn mir auch direkt angesehen.Ich muss sagen das ich vorher schon die Serie dazu auf Super RTL gesehen hatte (Keine Schleichwerbung) und bin daher auch erst auf den Trichter gekommen mir den Film zu kaufen.Nun zum Film (Es wird keinen Spoiler geben, selber schauen macht immer noch am meisten Spaß ;) ) :Der Film ist eigentlich so Strukturiert, wie jeder andere Film von den Machern. Es gibt einen Schwächling, der es allen zeigen will.Seine "Teamkollegen" sind ihm Anfangs eher skeptisch oder besser spötisch gegenüber gesinnt.Mit dem Abschuss eines Nachtschattens will er sich einen Namen unter den Dorfbewohnern machen, denn dieser Drache ist einer der Drachen, die sich nicht zu erkennen geben. Wie es nunmal in solchen Filmen ist, trifft der Held des Filmes den Drachen, kann es aber nicht beweisen (leider). Nach erfolglosen Suchen findet er ihn. Der Drache ist verletzt. Der Held kümmert sich um den Drachen und sie Freunden sich an. Bis hierhin hat der Film schon gut 50 von 90 Minuten hinter sich, Spannung ist kaum zu merken.Im "Endteil" fliegt die Freundschaft auf, der Drache wird eingesperrt und hilft dem Vater des Helden sogar noch das Drachennest zu finden. Mit dem Schluss (die letzten 30 Minuten ungefähr) wird eine Spannung aufgebaut, die sogar nach mehrmaligen anschauen immer noch vorhanden ist. Der Endkampf bietet ein breites Gebiet an Special Effects, Stunts und Action. Das Happy End allerdings tritt für mich eher zu schnell ein.Ich habe schon viele Filme von den Machern gesehen und auch schon emotionalere, als dieser. Auch habe ich schon Filme von den Machern gesehen, wo die Story besser hinterlegt war und auch spannender war. Es gibt für meinen Geschmack zu viel "Vorgespulte" Szenen, die man hätte mehr ausschmücken können.Allerdings muss man sagen, dass der Film och schon irgendwo sein Suchtpotential hat. Man kann ihn sich dreimal, viermal oder auch fünfmal hintereinander anschauen und es wird nicht langweilig, weil man immer wieder versteckte Gags findet und immer mehr Details.Für mich daher 5 Sterne wert. Der Film hat auch das Potential auf einen Teil 2 und 3 meiner Meinung nach.Mit der Serie, die es auch als DVD-Collection gibt, haben die Macher sich schon sehr meinen Wünschen angepasst.Allerdings, als Schlussfazit, in einem evtl. Teil 2 sich mehr an die alten Filme aus den guten alten Zeiten halten, das Prinzip bleibt das gleiche, das steht fest, aber mehr Romantik, Action und eine spannendere Story, würden dem Thema "Drachenzähmen" doch erheblich gut tun.
