This was one of my son's favorite Christmas gifts this year. He really enjoyed assembling each project and I was thrilled with his delight! Here are some specifics that make this a great gift: 1. Very clear instructions. Out of the whole book, my son only made one building error. 2. All pieces included. You have to disassemble each project to reuse the pieces, but there isn't any need to find pieces around the house to complete any project. 3. Super cool press-outs make each project more fun and interesting. NOTE: my son did need help a few times with pressing these out and taping them together. 4. It all fits back in the box/book for storage. NOTE: the box flaps tore so we taped and trimmed them to make them easier to open and close. 5. Great hand-on way to learn about simple machines. In this new, on-line teaching environment, any opportunity to reinforce lessons with hands-on activities is welcome! Gadgets include a claw, a pinwheel, a mixer, a catapult, and more!

Purchased this item as a gift for my grandson. He was very pleased with the product. Very excited to start building some projects.

Long term value I bought this for a great grandson and he loves it! He has created all the projects, some over and over, and come up with creations of his own. Of all the Lego I've bought him, this little set is the one he gets out almost every day. The book that comes with the set is excellent. The paper projects for the gadgets require nothing extra except a glue stick, although on some projects we found double sided tape is a little easier to work with and is quicker than waiting for glue to dry. I plan on using this as a gift in the future.

These sets are pretty cool, because they have the book that is more reusable, but the book is more durable than the cardboard parts, so that doesn't make sense because eventually we will have just the books with all the cardboard pieces having been lost, and I wonder how much they may or may not still serve a purpose for my son's little inventions. I got this to help him make inventions that have real mechanical parts. He is six and he can follow most of the instructions involving the bricks, just not the more fragile cardboard pieces that are more confusing. I am glad these sets exist, but I think the Legos should combine the parts from all three sets with a big book for top dollar, then publish a totally seperate book that contains just the cardboard punch outs, and do some little version for kid's meals where they try to do cardboard goods but they are never designed for a broad enough range of ages.

My nephew loved this. It was easy to understand and complete.

Lots of really fun projects in here and teaches so many engineering concepts for the kids to use in other creations. The pictures are easy to follow, the only part I had to help my six year old on was folding the paper pieces. I wish it came with more legos, but honestly for the price and the number of projects it’s a great deal.

It’s such a fun idea but unfortunately you really don’t get a lot of pieces for the price. It was very disappointing opening a big box to find such a small bag of lego. Please see the photo attached.

This book is a great buy. My 5year old loved making the models and although the science bits are aimed at older kids, he was still interested and it made a great introduction to them. I liked how at the start of each section the book explains the science behind the model then after you had built it described real world applications of the device. A bit of all sorts covered, optical illusions, physics, history etc. There is a lot of encouragement and ideas to develop the models shown further. A nice selection of old school Lego technic, gears that properly fit together and beams you can build up from provided. The cardboard bits are a bit flimsy and once removed from the book are easily lost and damaged when it comes to remaking the models. Worth mentioning adding paper and card pieces to Lego contraptions is a great idea and one we hadn’t thought of before. Making your own and colouring in your own cardboard parts is a great idea and adds to the play value of this kit. Definitely recommended and good value for both the Lego and the educational value.
