About once a month, I use Urnex Liquid Dezcal Activated Descaling Solution, and it works great. You can actually see it doing its job—the water comes out cloudy afterward, which is oddly satisfying. My cleaning routine is pretty simple. I mix a 10% solution by filling a measuring cup with 900 ml of water, then topping it off with the cleaner to reach 1000 ml total. Then I run the full amount through the machine once. After that, I pour the liquid back into the reservoir and brew about half of it before turning the machine off. I let it sit for 20 minutes so the solution can really do its thing. Then I turn the machine back on and let the rest finish brewing, and toss that liquid out. To finish up, I run two full reservoirs of clean water through the machine to rinse everything out. This method not only cleans the coffee maker thoroughly but also helps descale the pitcher. And since each cleaning only uses 1000 ml of solution, one bottle lasts for about 10 cleanings.
