great book
this book is amazing, my mom purchased thinking it was a chapter book but it's still good and a good read especially for teens and young adults to learn about Sarah Rector.

Important read
I think this is an important book to open people's minds to taking advantage of others, but was all of it true????? I say that because one of my ancestors was in this book and even though I can imagine a person would hide their wrongdoings when they rejoined the main family unit years later from this event, I also question some of the digging/research by the author (but not all). Sadly, my older ancestors have passed and I can't ask them questions. It has been a surprise to the family, that's for sure.

Brief Look At A Fascinating Time
This is not just a story of a very rich and reclusive young woman (11 million in today's $$, by her 18th birthday), it is also a fascinating look at post-Civil War Indian Territory politics, the beginnings of the Oklahoma oil boom of the early 1900's, and Jim Crow attitudes and laws in Oklahoma. Fact filled and supported with numerous primary source photos and documents, Searching for Sarah Rector almost reads like an in-depth magazine article. It is a very quick read, but its rambling format may confuse middle grade readers who are new to non-fiction. Curious readers may be inspired to find out more about The Trail of Tears, the Creek Indian nations, the all Black towns of Oklahoma, western expansion or the Great Depression.

History is Fun
Our book club choose this book because we never heard of Sara and how rich she was. Excellence history picture of the past. We did not know that Native American Tribes had African slaves or the amount of land that was taken, and taken and taken away from the Native Americans. We enjoy the read, short simple but impactual with information of the past.

Rich in history from cover to cover
This book is a detailed account of african american life on "indian territory" (modern day Midwest). Her accounts are substianted with valid evidence. This is not anecdotal!!!It shed lights on the origin of mundane terms i.e wildcats, boomers, sooners (all college basketball and football teams). Truely gives a accurate account of what it was like being an african American in that time in that territory, while simultaneously highlighing how a fortunate african american girl was able to accumulate a substantial amount of wealth. Last but not least, it teaches us lessons we can all learn from! suitable for children as well as adults.

The Sarah Rector We Never Knew
I received this product on time as promised and in great condition. This book gave me a piece of valuable history I never knew!Sarah Rector was a champion not mentioned in any of the history books we were taught from in the 70's.Her story must continue to be told to give young and seasoned African Americans hope that we can do and be anything we put our minds to doing.A priceless book.M. Primary documents galore
This book is not only gorgeous, but it holds a fascinating story inside. In addition to the text, there are lots of actual pictures, maps and primary sources of Muskogee. A fascinating read. I cannot wait for my students to see this. They will love it.

Disappointed
I was really looking forward to reading this book and while the story is interesting there was no real development to the story and the conclusion was very weak.I was hoping to read about the timeline of her life. Some more digging on her legacy and direct ancestors would have been far more interesting. There were too many gaps in the story, lots around the beginning but nothing much there after.I got the kindle version which was still in the original book layout format. It was like reading a photocopy of a book with some text also overlapping. The layout didn't work for kindle and I kept having to scroll side to side.Overall not really worth the price. Just read about her on Wikipedia.
