A well deserved Happily-ever-after for Perry
Desperate to avoid marrying the old, drunken husband her brother has selected for her, Paula Leighton decides she must find herself another husband before it's too late. Perry Ambrose, Earl of Clement has been unlucky in love. After searching the marriage mart for five years, his one financee ran away with another man. Ever the optimist, Perry knows he'll eventually find his match and hopes to settle happily into a real marriage. When Paula and Perry are introduced at a ball, their mutual objectives make their path obvious. Not only is Perry wealthy and titled with beautiful blue eyes, he's the most kind and considerate man Paula has ever met and she can hardly believe her good fortune in finding him. Paula is beautiful, warm, loving and completely appreciates Perry. She feels she's not deserving of him. Unfortunately, Paula's brother is a selfish, conniving snake who's holding a secret from Paula's past over her head. The entire book alternates between loving moments between Perry and Paula (including several explicit scenes) contrasted with anxiety-filled moments between Paula and her brother.Paula is really likable. Even her past mistake is forgivable, but she doesn't trust Perry's love enough to confide in him and keeps digging herself into a deeper hole. I'm not a violent person, but I wanted to reach through the pages of this book and throttle her brother. Characters from previous books are also featured, especially Agatha and Christopher Robinson. Other than when Christopher is goading him, Perry is blissfully happy throughout the book, but he knows something is bothering Paula. He resolves to be patient and persistent to find out what it is. In the end, everything works out and one of the Regency era's sweetest heros gets his HEA.Did you find this review helpful? If so, please vote "yes."

The Earl 's Scandalous Wife
A young well-bred country girl succumbs to the suit of a man who takes her toward Gretna Green but leaves her at an Inn before reaching their destination where they were supposed to be married. He was going to marry a wealthy woman. She was ruined and her greedy brother who deprived her and her mother of a decent living although his father left a small fortune to do so was selling her to be married to a Duke who needed an heir. He was twice as old and was very harsh. When she heard men discussing a ball she decided to go and put a man in a compromising situation so he would have to save her from the odious marriage. There was an Earl at the ball who also needed a wife and his cousin suggested he do the same. He approached attractive young ladies to push his cousins suit. He was gentle and a bit shy though be was a very good manager of his estates. The cousin, the former ward of the young Earl agreed to help her since she wanted a husband. The cousin and his wife were witnesses and when she kissed the Earl, he accepted the fact and took credit for missing her, especially after meeting her brother. As they were leaving the Duke complained that he was stealing his bride. The Earl realized why she needed him and said he was honor bound to wed her since she was not the Duke 's wife. That is not the end of the story. The brother still wanted money even though he had money.

Lord Clement finds a wife!
Lord Clement is one of my favorite characters, and he has been looking for a wife for four seasons. Every time he finds someone he is interested in, they marry someone else. Paula's brother, Stewart, is trying to arrange a marriage for his sister to a duke for money. She decides her only option is to go to a ball and create a scandal to marry someone else. And so the fun begins when Christopher introduced Paula to his cousin Perry, Lord Clement. Ruth Ann Nordin in her brilliant way describes how Paula ends up with Perry and still has trouble with her brother. Read this book to see how everything unfolds for Perry and Paula. I loved this book! Happy reading! π

Should be titled "The Nasty Brother"
This was a satisfying read: a spunky heroine, an honorable hero, a nasty brother, and some other interesting characters. Determined not to be married off to an older, drunken man by her brother (the nasty), she confronts the first man she sees at a ball with a compromising situation. He sees it as such, but as an honorable man who has been wanting to wed, he agrees, and they go off immediately to Gretna Green. The more she knows him the more she admires and respects him, until it turns to . . . But of course this is a romance novel, isn't it? The nasty brother is probably the most interesting character; his greed and viciousness to his own sister are mind-boggling. The hero is also well drawn, and appears in a previous book. How he subtly and cleverly outwits the nasty brother is the meat of the story. Read on!

BOOK 4 of (marriage by scandal).
The author was a new read, I think that they were not only interesting and the storylines kept me involved. I enjoyed the characters and their families, and how they interacted over the whole of the four books. I will certainly look forward to other books by this author.

Very good read
This is the best of the 'Marriage by Scandal' series, because you meet some of the characters throughout books 1 to 3 and get a glimpse of their lives. So by book 4 you are, much more invested in the emotional journey of these two characters. However each book can be read as a standalone novel.

Nice easy read, did make me smile BUT!! Cookies did not exist in England at that time and a couple of other minor mistakes historically. Nice to know Perry got the Girl in the End.
