It is the best thing to get the cold to the source, and help with pain management. It has been used in our family after hip and knee surgery. It made the pain more manageable, and if you have a long car ride back from the hosipital, it travels well with the case. You might just need to pick up a AC adaptor. Both doctors were pleased with the results, and how well controlled the swelling was after surgery because of this machine. We left the hospital with the knee wrapped in Ace bandages, and instructed not to remove for 2 days. But you could not feel the ice packs through it. Place the wrap on and fill the machine as instructed, and the cool started to penetrate right away. The best thing is you can control how cold it gets.
