A must for middle school world history
It is refreshing to read a book that is not afraid to share the atrocities of Mao Zedong, even if the author uses lower figures than many for the millions dead at his command. Most Americans are completely unaware of this ruthless killer. A few years ago I was shocked to meet someone from China who said his whole family was starved to death at the command of Mao Zedong. Since then I have read more Chinese history and met several people with the same testimony. The torture, the mind control, the laws to bow before his image. We have a holocaust museum in Washington D.C. to share about the atrocities of Adolf Hitler. Mao was worse. Mao's China must be taught, and this book is a good intro.

Parents should pre-read
This book is a biography of Mao that portrays him as the monstrous ego behind the horrors of Communist China. Written at an upper-grades reading level, the vocabulary includes:anarchyannihilationcommuneconfiscationdevastatingdissenterfamineguerillahumiliationpropagandapurgequotarationGraphic descriptions of mob violence perpetrated against the middle class by the peasants, the looting committed by the Party against the peasant cooperatives, the brutal torture in order to extract "confessions" (whipping, burning, fingernail torture, beatings), millions of people executed by frenzied laborers, labor/death camps, and the utter annihilation of the "Cultural Revolution".Parents may want to pre-read. This biography/history rolls right along with a sense of detachment, but these are big issues for kids.Socialism is evil. This book shows it clearly.

Mao Zedong (Wicked History)
Worst book ever! Pure propaganda. It is obviously from a mind that contains a lot of hatred to the earthshaking Chinese revolution in the twentieth century.
