DON'T BE TAKEN IN BY PROMISE OF FREE LIFETIME GUARANTEE!
Bought one of these in 2014, relying on the promise of a free lifetime guarantee. The valve worked fine at first but, by the middle of 2019, was first failing to open when it should, then started failing to shut off when it should. No worries, I thought, I'll be able to claim under the terms of the free lifetime guarantee. Tried contacting Amazon on the guarantee - they said I needed to contact the seller. Tried contacting the seller - no response from seller, so Amazon said I needed to contact the manufacturer, in Malta. Contacted the manufacturer - guess what, no guarantee-honouring response there, either! So, do not rely on the free lifetime guarantee: it is not honoured and, if your valve should fail, you're on your own!

Good buy
24th June.I thought the item was a little bit over priced but decided to buy to try and stop the terrible screeching noise coming from the three year old valve in the loft water tank when it was nearly full, the noise had been happening for two months and was driving my wife insane. I bought the Abertax valve and the MALE/FEMALE 1/2" BSP connector (part No 17220855562) but also had to buy a 15mm brass tap fitting with fibre washer and soldered it to the main 15mm water inlet pipe, the Abertax valve fitted into it perfectly, I also bought a straight brass 1/2" BSP male to 15mm compression with an olive to which I connected a piece of 15mm plastic central heating radiator pipe to the plastic elbow, keeping it 5 inches from the bottom of the tank as not to disturb the sediment in the bottom when filling, this action stopped the noise of the water pouring onto the surface water. I have just tested it for an hour and I am very happy with the result . I haven't given it 5 star because hasn't been in long enough to be tried properly.25th June.2014.Last night my wife and I had a shower (not together unfortunately) and the valve worked perfectly, no more screeching, really pleased with the result. Hope the valve lasts as long as they claim.13th June 2015.----------------Today unfortunately, the valve has not lasted as long as they claim and has stopped working, I was outside in the garden and the water poured from the overflow pipe, I realised that the valve had malfunctioned. I was disappointed that it had only lasted just under 12 months considering the price I paid for it. If I had not been at home, the house would have been completely flooded. This Bad Point is when the valve malfunctions the water fills the water tank in the loft at the full bore rate whereas a ball valve it just tickles through the overflow so I have replaced it with the trusty £4-90 ball valve knowing that my house would not be subject to a sudden deluge of water in the future. Disappointed.

Fantastic device just what I wanted, Magic !It has completely solved a violent oscillation (hammering) problem that I have been fighting for many years.I have an unusually small and narrow copper bespoke header tank situated on top of a larger rectangular bespoke hot water tank where accessibility of the inlet valve is very difficult, just below a ceiling.Because this clever device has as float sensor switch with a good hysteresis effect - that is to say the water level has to drop say 12 mm before the valve suddenly opens fully and when the level is restored, snaps shut - so there is no chance of any hammering.I found that the purchase of the straight 45mm Abertax extension was a must - as was a copper adapter 1/2" BSP compression to 1/2" copper olive type bought locally. I had to shorten my copper inlet pipe to accommodate and fit a new olive, but went well and worked first time. The temperature rating of the devise is 75 deg C as I remember and is just as well since my mains water header tank directly sits on the hot water tank with a direct connection water link. There is a fine filter fitted which would be easy to change except that to do so one has to rotate the body and my tank is too narrow for this so will have to undo all fittings should this become blocked which is possible since there is limescale in my region. So, possible future difficulties for me but I cant foresee any problems for anyone else!I would thoroughly recommend this ingenious device!

Works well for a few months
Works perfectly well for a few months, then it fails. Fails to open, fails to close. Replaced it three times, each time it starts failing after only a few months. Not reliable.

Works well (so far!) but make sure you have the right connector
I purchased the Abertax valve to replace a float valve that was playing up in a header tank. Although it is too early to comment on the promised longevity of this product (particularly as we live in a hard water area), I am impressed by the very positive action of this valve - it regulates the water level with extreme precision. It is also very easy to install, even when working blind through a narrow gap between the header tank and the ceiling. The cylindrical float chamber gives you something to hold while installing and aligning the valve with the hole in the tank and its compactness is a benefit compared to ungainly float valves. Before installing check that you have the correct brass coupling to connect to the copper feed pipe. I thought that I had but then discovered that 1/2 bsp fittings commonly sold as tap connectors have an internal flange that won't work with the Abertax (but worked fine with the float valve I was replacing). You need a coupling with no internal flange and a large flat washer, like the one you would find on a shower fitting. If in doubt, take the Abertax fittings around to your local plumbers' merchant and check the coupling fits correctly in the shop.Another tip: once you have fitted the Abertax 1/2" bsp male/female connector to the valve and tightened it fully, put a pencil mark on the black plastic threaded tail to indicate the vertical orientation. If you are installing blind, as I was, it is reassuring to see from the pencil mark on the tail that the valve is correctly aligned to the vertical inside the tank, rather than rely on an approximate 'feel'.
