Is this strapping rigid or is it soft enough to tie and knot?

This is a soft strapping material. I use it to tie into knots all the time

Will this strapping hold up if nailed or stapled through?

I dont belive it will last long if you do.

Can this be bonded to itself with heat?

Haven't tried that. I would imagine if you used a plastic welder it may work. Have seen that done with similar material and a commercial welder/cutter. I use a banding clip with a crimper. They also have a clip that you can thread banding into and it pulls against itself. The last way is reusable.

can I use it to tie lumber?

I don't know about Lumber but I tie my shrink wrap on my boat with it
