I Love This Part: Hardcover Edition

This graphic novel is short, emotional, wonderfully expressive for the length and showcases a thing that happens quite a bit in the lgbtq+ community

Despite the heaps of praise, accolades, awards this book has received, and despite my love of coming of age/first love books, I am left feeling incredibly underwhelmed. While the art is pretty enough and used effectively, the story and how it's told is entirely generic and uninspired to the point I felt as if I was reading little more than a template or paint by numbers design for the sort of book this is trying to be. The same scenes, beats, and moments from a million YA romance and coming of age books, shows, and songs are displayed here without anything to distinguish them as unique. Just a small, uninspired collection of archetypal tropes that have been explored and presented so, soooo much better in so many other works. It just feels to me to be completely souless. And that really bums me out.

Quick heads up, this graphic novel is quite short. But that being said, I found a deeply profound storyline woven through gorgeous landscapes and splashes of color. Tillie Walden is a master of combining art and story - I was absolutely obsessed with every page and how beautiful it was. It's also a welcome wlw addition to the graphic novel world. I really loved it.

this just arrived on my doorstep less than ten minutes ago, and i have already ready it twice. i absolutely love it, and upon my first finish,decided that i will cherish this forever and pass it on if i should have my own daughter. its reminded me so of my own life,years ago, and the importance music played in it,without the music being defined, or overtaking the story ."soft" and "real" are words that come to mind when asked how this story feels. i love it. i love it. i love it.

Gorgeous, beautiful, and reminded me of what it was like to fall in love for the first time as a young lesbian. It's really enchanting because though it is a quick read, I've been through it at least 3 times. Admiring every picture. It has stayed with me long after reading it. It made me feel warm and nostalgic and bittersweet. First love will do that to you.

I personally didn’t enjoy this book, but it did come in great condition. Just be aware that the book is tall and thin so it fits awkwardly on shelves.

Shorter than I expected but great content. I love all of Tille Walden's books.

I loved this so much!!! There was a part in it where they talked about popup ads and it was so funny. Also its so like pretty and a little bit sad too but like just 10/10.

Bought 2 of these, 1 to give to someone else.First read it in the local library in 10 minutes and I knew it was something I'd like to have on my shelf, take out from time to time and read again.

I read "Spinning" and was really at awe - what a brave and perfect graphic novel. So I tried to get my hands on other books by Tillie Walden and I loved "I love this part" as well. But have to admit, it lacks in depth in comparison with "Spinning" - actually I did not want to compare the two at first, as this is one of her earlier work. So regardless: Buy it, like it, buy Tillie Walden's other work. You will discover much more than the ostensible storyline!!

Tillie Walden always managed to capture this nostalgic feeling of teenage angst and anxiety. Whenever I read one of her works, it feels like reading a well worded and painfully familiar Haiku - beautiful yet soul-crushing. And "I Love This Part" doesn't fail in one bit to do just that. A love story of two girls told through daily mundane situations juxtaposed with grand imagery.Some people will be dissatisfied with the price-to-pages-ratio, but I think it is worth every single cent. Definitively a strong recommendation.
