Picture Hanging Brass Wire 100-Feet, Supports 20 lbs

Good quality product but it would be nice if it came on a spool. I ended up getting tangled wire.

I was struggling to figure out how to hang pictures from my picture rail. Most instructions have you use twisted cord (either with or without inside wire) or chain. I have dark walls so wanted some kind of brass or gold, but chain, though convenient because it doesn't kink, was both more expensive and less strong (especially unwelded links). I decided I didn't have much to lose from trying brass wire, so I ordered this.It comes in a loose roll and was much more springy and supple than I expected. I was careful to let the wire unwind in its own chosen direction so that it didn't kink, and I avoided all but one or two minor kinks. I measured, tied a classic picture knot through the eyelets/d-rings on either side of the picture, keeping one end loose, then carefully hung it on the picture rail hook. I adjusted the height, then tightened the loose picture knot. The weight of the pictures, which are 16" by 19" and 18" by 23" oil paintings in heavy gold frames, keeps the wire straight but not strained.The weight load was something I had been worried about because don't have a scale to weigh my paintings. I'm not sure how much jostling they could take, but they feel pretty secure to me, despite the low-sounding 30-pound limit (the cords have a 100-pound limit). The govart site says #4 wire should have only 20 pounds, so maybe there are different strengths (I can't post the actual url because Amazon thinks it's a link to an external product.)

I purchased 2 wires at the same time for a craft project and I'm not sure which gauge is off. They are both 30 pound gauge but this is a 5th of the braided galvanized wire's thickness. Does that mean that brass wire is stronger than galvanized?? Somehow I don't think so. I expected thicker.

This stuff is garbage. The second I opened the bag it completely unrolled and tangled into a huge mess. It’s super thin and the individual strands unravel easily. I hung 2 frames with it before I had to just throw the rest of the bundle away because I could not untangle it further. The gold color is nice but not worth the trouble or money.
