Oscar Wilde - Stories for Children

This story is my favorite fairy tale, but this publication's illustrations are terrible. I returned this.

This book belongs in a museum - a work of art in itself and of course the classic Oscar Wilde stories we’ve come to cherish. It’s up to us to hand down these heartfelt stories to the generations to come. They will need it!

New book. Bought it to replace the one which I had and gave it as a present, but was sorry to part with it.Happy that I found a new one in excellent condition

Reading a book by a famous author is like going to a concert of great musicians. It will be good even if it’s not your favorite. I’m sure Walt Disney would have liked the talking animals, birds, and morals. It was very interesting.

I haven't read the stories yet, my comments are strictly on the illustrations. I love the illustrations of P.J. Lynch, and have purchased many books simply for those. I wondered why this book was so cheap, and now I know. It is printed on cheap paper with no color at all, which of course means the lovely illustrations look very poor. It's very disappointing, so if you do purchase this book, make sure it is for the stories, not the artwork, or try and find a full color printing with better quality.

Favorite author and pictures were colorful and well done. A good keepsake for the grand-kids!

One of my favourite books to read to kids. And this one also has beautiful pictures. It's a wonderful combination of words and images!

Whether these were really written for children, I don't know. The stories all have fairytale themes and structures, of course, but some of the imagery is quite disturbing too (but then some Christian imagery is..!). The writing however is rhythmical and quite beautiful, as one would expect from Oscar Wilde, and the stories can give rise to some deep conversations too. ("What does it mean?" my eight year old asked after The Selfish Giant.) So do be aware that these are Oscar Wilde stories and not fairy stories - and read them first before you read them to your child - but for some beautiful prose, particularly if you don't know them, do read them - and especially out loud. I personally can hardly get through The Happy Prince without choking up - even part-way through, 'cos I know what's coming... - again quite vulnerable moments to share with one's daughter...!PJ Lynch's artwork is beautiful too and enhances the stories, though of course they work extremely well without it too... best to read aloud and then perhaps share the artwork later.. But do check them out before you read them to your children. They are quite beautiful, but I'm not sure they were ever meant for children, so the title may be somewhat misleading.

This book is in perfect condition, just as announced, and I am rather pleased with it. On the minus side, and the reason why I am not giving this seller his 5 stars, is the fact that it was supposed to be delivered between the 14th and the 18th of June but only arrived on the 21st of June. Given that this book was meant to be a present I was less than please with the arrival date. Other than that I do enjoy and am pleased with another great Amazon acquisition.

I have been reading thse stories to my seven year old son. The selfish giant was recommended to me, so I decided to buy the book of short stories which included it rather than the single book. The selfish giant was fab and we really enjoyed it. they are on the whole very deep and dark. My son is enjoying listening to them, though i find them quite heavy to read out loud. They are certainly memorable. it has been an interesting journey through the book! Would certainly recommend the Selfish Giant to other readers.

These are absolutely beautiful and moving stories

The tales are very nice and poetic, but I would not recommend to read them to children. The stories are often hard and very sad.
