We'd be curious what you'd like to see the dimensions of the sides need to be. **Q: What is the recommended size of the pilot hole for these inserts?** A: For a #4-40 insert, if you have a No 24 drill, that's the official hole size or 0.152". Most people don't just have one of those in their toolbox. The nearest fractional is a 5/32" which is easy to find at your local hardware store. We have done both sizes with success on our parts and can't tell the difference. Once you have the hole size, the main thing to make sure of is that you have hole depth that is beyond the length of whatever insert you're using so that plastic that gets melted down the hole has a place to go. If you're making the hole using your CAD design and 3D Printer, rather than drilling, you'll need to do some experimentation as the precision of small holes when 3D printing can vary. Our 3D printers will often make a hole that is slightly smaller than specified in the CAD design. Sometimes we will come back with the 5/32" bit and ream them out when that happens. If you're willing to iterate with your design and print, then you can often find the perfect size that will work with all of your models without drilling.
