My 3 year olds love trains. As their birthday approached
My 3 year olds love trains. As their birthday approached, it was time to buy our first tracks and an ever important train crossing. They love train crossings and this one has not disappointed. Everytime they go over the train crossing switch the lights blink and the bells ding. I liked this one more than the thomas one because the gates manually move up and down instead of like barn gates. If we need a second train crossing, I will get one more of the same.

Nice addition
Love that the sound it makes is quite low - grandson seems to enjoy it

Only works with some trains
Just received this, so far the magnet operated sound will only be turned on by thomas trains, we have mainly chuggington, which i am guessing have the magnets more off the ground so they don't set it off. We also tried melissa and doug trains, which are the same as thomas, but they won't set the sound off either, maybe the magnets are not as strong in the melissa and doug? anyways, if you have just thomas trains then great, if you have a mix of trains go for a cheaper option your child may have to just press for a sound, since with this you won't have ANY sound if you don't have the right train.

Works great!
This works perfectly. You actually have to run the train through to get the sound effects. I thought maybe it detected motion, but that is not it.To be perfectly honest you don't have to use a train to get the sound effects. It requires a magnet, so the plastic letters that stick to my frig will work if you run them across the track. I experimented.I like this because I prefer the child(ren) to get the sounds through play and not by just pushing some button. I am really pleased.

Well made product, especially for kids
I've had this for well about a year now if not longer and my toddler loves it. Not only is it still in perfect condition, despite being handled by a rough 4 year old, but the original batteries in it are still working, it works with any of his magnetic trains, unlike some of the reviews mentioned, and it fits with all his wooden tracks. It lights up and makes sounds but the gates are not automatic if that's what people are looking to buy.

Worth it!
My son plays with his wooden train set all the time. He wanted a crossing with two arms, and we originally bought another one without lights, but this is the new favorite. The other crossing has become secondary and this is the favorite piece of track now. The crossing sign flashes and dings when trains move over the crossing. Its kind of costly but my son LOVES it so it was worth the splurge.

Great product
My 2 & 5 year old boys adore this addition to their wooden train set. Every birthday an Christmas they get additional piece(s) for their set. Now the 5 year old is building his own "train city" - a little rest for mommy and daddy.
