This base is a bargain and a half
This is one solid well built umbrella base. Twice the cost would still be a fair price. The pole is 1 5/8 I.D. 3/16 wall pipe, with machined threads. Not the flimsy thin wall tubing seen on some other brands. Very stout. The iron is a nice casting with no discernible cosmetic defects. As others have mentioned the pole is 2 pieces threaded together. The sizes are a skosh under 6" and 10.5" on my unit. The threads that connect the 2 pieces are different than the threads in the base. So you won't be able to use the longer pole by itself with the base. If you have the clearance there would be no reason to not use both of them together. There are 3, 5/8 dia. rubber feet on the bottom of the base. There is approx. 1/2 inch of clearance under the base so air can circulate under it.There is a plastic bushing in the top end of the top pole. It does come out and can be used on the lower pole. It fits a little looser in the bottom pole, but once the umbrella is in, it isn't going anywhere. This is a very well designed and constructed base. Worth every penny.

Good
I bought two of these last summer for the umbrellas on my patio that shield my picnic tables from the sun. I bought them for three reasons: they were 50 pounds, which my umbrella maker recommended, you don't have to put sand in a hollow plastic stand (that costs more than twice as much)--the stand actually weighs 50 pounds, and they were the least-expensive 50-pound umbrella stands I could find. They function exactly the same as umbrella stands costing a lot more. I did see some umbrella stands with scroll-leaf and other designs, which were nice, but not for $250-$300. If you have the cash, invest it in a better-quality umbrella. The dark brown color of this stand matches the color of the pole of many umbrellas.I did not receive any compliments from my frequent barbecue guests on these stands. (Heck, I didn't receive any on my umbrellas, which are a lot nicer.) Normal people don't notice these things or think of them as being compliment-worthy. All the more reason not to spend one dime more on an umbrella stand than is necessary. You should get the stand weight your umbrella manufacturer recommends. But why pay more for something nobody--including you--will notice once it's in place?

This is a great umbrella stand
This is a great umbrella stand. Heavy so it won't blow over with umbrella, nice long support tube which I find useful for better support. I've owned this base for 5 years and decided to replace umbrella. I discovered that the interior of the support tube is very rusted when I took the umbrella pole out. I was very surprised because outside of stand is still perfect with no rust. Just wanted people to know...

Just what I was looking for!
This unbrella base is just as described, "Classic". It is heavy, handsome and goes perfectly with my cast aluminum table and chairs. I couldn't be happier! It arrived as scheduled and in perfect shape. I found umbrella bases from the same company in the local high end stores at much higher prices, and they didn't carry the look that I wanted.....too many curly cues! It also has an extra feature that I wasn't aware of when I ordered it. The post that holds the umbrella is in two pieces. You use the shorter of the two if you are using the base under a table and you can add the extension for more stablility if you are using it free standing. Both pieces fit under my table and I figured the more stability the better! You can also purchase an extra weight to create an 80 lb. base.

Sturdy as a rock and much better looking!
I'll tell you what, if your umbrella blows away while in this stand then you're in a hurricane and you should have brought your umbrella inside, anyway.Love the stand, it's very heavy-weight and well-made and I feel very confident that it's going to hold my umbrella securely. There is an extension included with the stand that allows one to use the stand with an umbrella as a free-standing unit (sans a table). We're using it with the Strathwood St. Thomas set we also purchased on Amazon along with the Ace Evert 9-foot umbrella (ASIN: B003AQBJGU).A terrific combo.UPDATE 3/31/2016: Heading into our sixth season with this umbrella base and it still works and looks terrific. We did leave it outside during the last two winters and that hasn't seemed to effect the base in any way.

Beautiful and heavy!
I ordered two of these after a mishaps with the wind broke one of my patio tables. The wind does get pretty strong where I live and these are holding up to it great! As long as the umbrellas are folded down, I've been able to leave them standing (one is free-standing, one is in the remaining patio table) in sustained winds of up to 40 mph. Anything above that and the free-standing one starts to wobble a bit so I just lay it down and don't have to worry about shop-vaccing broken glass up again! Well worth the price, which I thought was reasonable given the research I did on these. The are easy to assemble and have a classy aesthetic while doing a heavy duty job.

Well built 50lb Umbrella stand
This is a well designed cast iron umbrella stand capable of withstanding mild winds and not be affected in any way. A strong wind will knock must umbrellas down or bend them anyway. It it very easy to assemble and came packaged nicely with no issues. The extended pole is a plus and is just as important as the weight when using as a free standing umbrella without a table. I recommend anyone who is in the market for a good quality stand...the same one goes for $99 at local dealers. Overall we are very happy with this purchase.

Best buy! I bought two of them.
I just recently bought the umbrella base. It works perfectly. It's heavy duty and easy to put together. Like many others, I did a lot of research before I purchase this product. I have a huge nine foot umbrella and I needed a base that could support the umbrella, and no doubt this base does the trick. The packaging was not torn-up like other umbrella bases were. Nothing was damaged and I was surprised how quickly I received the product. It is very stylish and goes with my outdoor dining set beautifully. So today, I decided to order another one for my eight foot umbrella that I have recently purchased for my sitting area. You will not go wrong with this base. I highly recommend this product.
