Fascinating and Uplifting
I first read this on holiday in Mauritius last year - it's a fabulous story about Piers Moore Ede's recovery from physical and mental illness through the discovery of bee keeping and he then goes in search of the history by travelling to places where honey was and sometimes still is collected from the wild. A fascinating and uplifting story that I wanted to read again so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Liked it
I have read both of his books and liked them a lot. He has both a good writing style and makes his subjects interesting. I'm often disappointed with the books I buy and struggle to finish them, but not with this author, who I highly recommend and hope he publishes another book soon.

great arm chair journey
This is a wonderful book detailing the journey into the middle east and gives us an inside view into the culture of the area. It is rather tragic that much of the area is now experiencing violence and war.

OK as one-off read on the plane/train but not to keep a copy.
Easy read but left a strange feeling of not being fully thought through. This is not a book of someone's life as such, not a book about beekeeping or bees at all, not a book about travelling, not a book in history exactly - there is a little bit of everthing and nothing. OK as one-off read on the plane/train but not to keep a copy.

Three Stars
Probably of interest to bee keepers.

Travels in Search of Sweetness
This is one of the few books that I actually decided to purchase, having read it first. Usually I borrow books from the library and am contented with that. It is a wonderful book about the author's travels to countries where he can view at first-hand what bee-keeping and the pursuit of honey is all about. His travels take him to meet bee keepers and honey farmers in exotic countries such as Nepal, India and Sri Lanka; the Middle East and Syria, and to Italy and New York. He describes the natural habitat of such places in a beautiful and picturesque way and at every step of his travels he takes the reader with him in his search for honey and sweetness. The story is not very long. One of the best I've read this year.

A different kind of Traveller..
I just wish there were more books like this out there in the Travel Literature! This book is simply too beautiful, the way it is written, the stories, the journeys, all weaved as with a golden thread. Underneath it all it's the search for meaning, and that's what makes this book unique. The thread carries on with All Kinds of Magic just as beautifully and I hope it will go even further.

Best book....
Usually I borrow books from the library and am contented with that. It is a wonderful book about the author's travels to countries where he can view at first-hand what bee-keeping and the pursuit of honey is all about. This is one of the few books that I actually decided to purchase Having always loved honey as a child he decides to go on a quest to find honey being produced by traditional methods. He finds clay pots in Syria, wild honey hunters who defy death to scale cliffs in Nepal and tribesmen in the jungles of Sri Lanka who hunt for honey in tree trunks. At the same time he is searching for his lost sense of well being. I loved this book. Not only is it an account of a journey in search of traditional methods of bee-keeping which are fast dying out
