Maybe. In the summer they ship in ice packs.BUT, it was still 95 degrees in Sacramento when mine arrived MELTED. (Oct 3, 2014)

Just ordered the 33.9 oz package and figured I'd count it out since so many people wanted to know. I got 99 candies total, almost equally divided between the four types (26 Special Dark, 25 Milk with Almonds, 24 each of the other two). At 3 pieces per serving, you get a respectable 33 servings out of this bag. Not bad!

Generally what is the shelf life of these chocolates from the day they are shipped?

Back when I purchased these a while back I bought 2 at the time (1 for Halloween and 1 for personal consumption) which had a good shelf life. I'd say you'd be good for a few months in my opinion. In case you were wondering there's about 100 nuggets per package. I counted them out at the time. Hope this helps you decide to buy or not. ^Jim
