Great way to get two connections from one Ethernet port
Theres a reason why these come in pairs. One at the router|hub switch and the other one at the Ethernet port. Hence, one physical line can take two signals. A mapping of 2:2. A lot of people on here give these kind of kit a bad review due to their lack of understanding of LAN networking. Most assume they can split a single signal from say a router or switch into two which just will not work. Some one one here gave a very detailed and excellent explaination so have a read as I'd just be repeating ...

Does not take the place of a switch
Bought two of these hoping to use an existing single ethernet cable to feed two digital TV boxes from two ethernet outlets on a BT homehub ( the single cable worked fine feeding one box) this did not work! although it was suggested that it would. I subsequently purchased a simple ethernet switch (see other review) which when placed at the TV end of the existing cable fed the two digital boxes with no problem. The ethernet switch at £7.00 (from Amazon) turned out cheaper than the two 'economiser' units and 4 patch cables. Do not know why the 'economiser' system would not work?

Get the facts right first...
I really feel for genuine sellers who supply very reasonably priced items, well described and in this case well made ( a nice solid construction with an almost rubberised feel) only to get blasted by reviewers who have so got the wrong end of the stick that it isn't even a stick! Many reviewers have gone to great length to describe exactly how these items work and I would advise any potential buyer to take some time to study these carefully.Simply put... these enable you to utilise the spare capacity available in any CAT5/6 cable to 'fit' 2 circuits down one cable. They aren't splitters like phone socket doublers. You need 2 network sources such as router outputs at one end of an existing CAT5/6 cable and you can operate two separate devices at the other end.Another way to think of it... you have one single CAT5/6 cable running through your house with a router at one end and a PC at the other and you need to add an extra device next to the PC but can't easily add another CAT5/6 cable. So you put one of these devices at the PC end and one at the router end. This gives you 2 outlets at both ends. The way they work as a pair has utilised the spare capacity in your existing CAT5 cable. Now connect 2 router ports at one end and you are free to connect both the PC and new item at the other. Note, depending how you have everything wired, you may need to employ a female to female back to back inline adaptor at one or both ends just to connect them up.I hope this helps :)

was with a go but you can't win them all.
For information i bought these with the hope that they would work but unfortunately not. I set them up by using two ports from my switch into the female rj45 connection's then connecting the male rj45 connection to a junction female to female rj45 connector and a working cat5 cable run. At the other end of the cat5 cable I connected the mail rj45 connector into a good working wall socket and two cat5 cables into the two female rj45 connection's. Then plugged one cable into my smart to and the other into an android media box. With the result of only the right hand side port work no matter which setup I tried even with a cross over cable!. So can anyone help in providing a solution or even a cable diagram that would allow me to use the other port. Like I said this is for information, by the way I have contacted the company via email but they just pointed me back to amazon!

Perfect if you need 2 x 100 Mbps connections over 1 CAT5e Ethernet cable
These are perfect for what I needed them for. These allow you to connect 2 devices at 100 Mbps via 1 CAT5e Ethernet cable into 2 ports in your router or switch. A normal CAT5e Ethernet cable contains 4 pairs of wires which are normally used for 1000 Mbps(1 Gbps) whereas 100 Mbps only requires 2 pairs of wires to work. These adapters split the 4 pairs of wires into 2 usable pairs. These DO NOT allow you to connect 2 devices to 1 port on your switch or router, if you require that then you need to purchase a switch or router with more ports.Ideally it would be best to run another CAT5e cable but for this would have involved a lot of work removing carpets and floorboards for a couple of devices that only needed a 100 Mbps connection and are not used constantly!Bear in mind that you actually need 2 CAT5e coupler adapters to join these to your cable so you need to take that into account when purchasing these.

Double up structured cabling
I find these great. Used them in the past when I worked in IT. People always wanted more equipment quicker than new cabling could be installed. Using these, two 10/100 devices could be run back to the patch panels without new cabling and without delay.Started using them again recently in a new office. The current structured cabling does not suit the desk arrangement. Too many ports in some areas not enough in others. I use these to carry both ethernet and phone cables from desks back to the patch panels. Each desk has a phone and a PC but typically only one wall socket.Connect these, one at each end to cross-over one device onto the unused wires within the ethernet cable and then back again at the other end. Two devices, one cable

Mislead.
Called "Ethernet Cable Economiser" but does not allow 2 ethernet cables to be plugged into the ports at the same time. Im infuriated and so disappointed after days of searching for the right product. I feel mislead and I would ask for a full refund if I had the time. Only buy this product if you want to use 1 port split into 2, 1 for ethernet and 1 for data.

For making use of the normally unused conductors in a cable these are great. I use one either end of a single cable run to enable me to have a private network and one for CCTV cameras without pulling more wire.Ones I received are metallised (like chrome) plastic and have screw mounting holes, this is of more use to me than the type shown in the images (which I also have). With this design it is possible to fix a few to a panel to avoid the cable sprawl that can occur with adding network wires to existing setup.
