Having never used a tool like this I had different expectations than what it has evolved into. I have a pair of southern white oaks that like to drop leaves and acorns all winter. By springtime the drop has a tendency to choke out a bermudagrass lawn that is already starved for light and air. So every year at least 3-4 times during the season, I need to pull the bulk of this material out of the yard so the soil can accept amendments, pre-emergent, fert, etc. before greenup in the spring. Southern white oak leaves are small and they like to crawl under grass blades. Even when my lawn is cut to about 1" these leaves are still hard to extract directly into the mulcher/vac. So after slaving over covering about 1200 sq ft going inch by inch with a heavy mulcher, I figured out the easiest and most efficient way... Go over the lawn with my smaller and lighter blower and pile the loosest material in a small zone. Then vac this pile up. If any more significant material is left, try to rake it loose then repeat. This vac does not pick up the acorns but for the few that make it in, the mulcher makes quick work of it. I use the same strategy as above to pile up the acorns left over from vacuuming into a small area with the blower after vacuuming all the leaves. Then I'll pick up the bulk of it with an acorn roller and finish the rest off by hand. Random notes. -For leaf work, you really do need to set this to full power (setting 6). -The available blower feature is not that useful except when needed on occasion. I use my separate blower that is lighter instead. -It is as many reviewers have said, kind of heavy. It's not that heavy really but more so when adding the weight of the collector bag with the machine over extended amount of time, it gets pretty tiring pretty quickly. Make a habit of slinging the bag cross body as opposed to over the shoulder. -It's loud and dusty. Like it or not, the vac will pick up any loose dust on the ground and then diffuse it through the bag and into the air. My neighbor's car has a healthy layer of dust and pollen on her car now after my 2 hour sojourn in the yard. -It can handle pretty much any material it can suck up. I should say though when I first got it as a like new used item (a lie btw as it was clearly well used), it would not do anything but buzz. After a bit of trouble shooting and reseating the parts multiple times, I discovered a hard twig inside the impeller that was sticking the entire tool. After safely removing it, it has worked like a champ ever since. It has in fact picked up twigs bigger than that one and minced them readily. -It seems to be most comfortable when held vertically and sweeping about an inch above the ground. -The bag does need to be emptied often. Fair enough though because you also have to carry it. CONCLUSION: I think for the fact that I have small leaves that can't be raked, this is a lawn saving tool that is inexpensive, effective, and over two seasons now, pretty durable. I have no regrets other than AW selling me a malfunctioning barely acceptable item as Like New but they have always treated me well otherwise. I fixed it, it works, moving on. I also changed tac and began collecting the mulch to be composted as there is a significant amount and I can combine it with my grass clippings. The vac picks up a lot of dust and dirt when used on dry ground and that makes for good structure for the compost. I'm very happy with this one, its on the wall in my shed, a place of honor and space savings.

I wish I had found this years ago. I spend so much time in my garden, weeding, cleaning up leaves, cleaning up, cleaning up, cleaning up, on repeat like Sisyphus, hauling my garden waste to the yard waste bin, hauling that to the curb... At a certain point this summer, I got so disgusted that I just stopped. All my yard waste got stacked in a pile, where it sat. My husband suggested we get this vac and now, honestly, I'm a little mad at him that he knew about such tools and has been withholding this information from me for years. I used the vac this past weekend and cleaned up my whole garden, my porch, vacuumed the dirt out of my porch rugs, and cleaned the patio. This works amazing on leaves and your non-stacked debris. I still have a pile of wet debris from a recent rain that could use drying out before revisiting vacuuming. A couple times I did have to clean out the shoot because I was a little over-enthusiastic with trying to get up the wet piles of old tomato plants, but that's on me. The bag has a convenient zipper for emptying out the mulch. Love the design. Easy. Free mulch. It's wonderful. Vac took a little getting used to in terms of how to sling the catch bag over your shoulder, but easy enough once your figure it out. I am not a beast, but reasonably strong and the vac does get heavy with a full bag, but that is all to be expected and a great excuse to take a break anyway to empty the bag, and maybe, crack an adult beverage of your choice. Because now you have SO MUCH TIME again to enjoy life! If I had a time machine and had a chance to offer advice to my younger self it would be this, "saving is all well and good and smart on you being frugal, but consider your quality of life, the crushing blows to your spirit, and the precious hours you lose doing things the hard way. Just spend the money and buy the tools that buy you back your time." That is my advice to you. Buy back your life. And also buy some earplugs, because even the best things come with a price. Don't let it be your hearing.

If you battle leaves like I do, you are probably willing to try about anything to make it faster and easier. The WG509 electric vacuum mulcher is a unique product that can help you win the battle against nature. I was able to buy this product for 60.00 which was a real bargain. I will admit my expectations were not high. The machine comes neatly packed and doesn't require a complicated assembly. There are only three parts and they snap together easily. Plug it in and you are ready to go. The first thing most people will notice is it's heavy. The longer you use it the heavier it will feel. It's also loud, especially on vacuum. I am not crazy about the shoulder strap. It needs a pad or something. The nylon will rub your skin raw from the weight of the leaves and moving around. The blower is ok. In my opinion it isn't positioned properly which makes for a weird blowing angle. I have to agree with other reviews about the mediocrity of the blower. I didn't buy it for that reason primarily. It's easy to switch from blow to vacuum and this machine functions best to suck up leaves. It chews up dry leaves like a champ but bogs a little on wet ones. It only occasionally clogs but its easily cleared. The suction is decent but anyone expecting shop vac level power can forget it. The bag fills up quickly but it definitely beats raking. The unit shines around corners and up against the house and even small sticks, twigs, and acorns don't slow it down. The main point for any buyer is manage your expectations. It will not turn a four hour job into a fifteen minute job, but it certainly beats raking. I would recommend the trash can adapter, which I just ordered because the bag fills up too quickly. This is a good product. I'm impressed with the progress so far and would recommend it as an addition to your yardwork arsenal.

Best leaf blower/vacuum I've ever used. It's about time someone made one that's easy to switch from blower to vac with the twist of a handle, rather than taking it apart and putting all the different stuff on it. Plus, it has an easy empty bag that just snaps in place and a dial to set the power exactly where you need it. I love it. Never had one this great.

So after receiving and shaping it together, which is very easy, I waited a couple days for the leaves to dry, I tried when they were wet and I feel it didn't stand a chance for me to give it a great review . After some dry weather, I set out to put this to the test. The unit and collection bag aren't to awful to wield, the handle has a sharpness in the seam that rubbed a small hole in my pinky, suction is so so. I wasn't overly impressed. It does mulch the daylights out of leaves, and I'm pretty confident I can pack in more leaves this way than with a rake, judging on the weight of a raked bag and mulched bag.and having to buy paper lawn bags... I wanted to spend less on that. . I did fill 3 bags only using the debris bag. And one with a rake and by hand for comparison. This surely didn't save me anytime, it actually took much longer to suck them up and empty into a bag over raking and bagging. But with the work vacuum, I never touched a leaf with my hands. The blower isn't to bad. Been awhile since I've had a leaf blower because my gas one always needs work at the beginning of the season and well. Its broke down alot. Hopefully with electric that'll change. At a little over 100 dollars I had higher expectations of the unit. But I think it may be best suited for maintence of leaf clean up rather than that first big clean up of the year. Face it. I want something that adds value to life (time and convience) this only added the ability to compact leaves into less bags. It took more time to pick up the leaves and bag, as the vac is no leaf hog by any means. The mulched is tough as nails, at one point i tried to break it, got locked up, and it pulled through fine. Its not as ergonomic as I would have hoped. I wish I could have borrowed one first. I wouldn't have spent the money on it. My back and shoulder doesnt hurt as if I would have raked. But my hand has some blisters from the handle. It does do the job its supposed to, but not with any time savings.

I’ve recently quit writing reviews for Amazon because if it’s not favorable they won’t print it. However, this product deserves a review because of its good attributes and because of some vital information that I would like to share with those researching whether or not to purchase this. Note that I am 67 but fit, am hard on tools although I take care of them (maintain and fix) and I have the same desires that most to find a good, reliable and quality product at a reasonable price. First and foremost, as other reviewers have mentioned, it is best for dry leaves. I live in western NC where the leaves are abundant and it rains frequently. The bulk of my leaves get blown with a powerful gas powered backpack blower where I mulch those with a lawn mower. I used the Worx mulcher immediately when received on small piles of semi-damp and/or totally wet leaves mixed with tiny tree limbs. The Worx mulching system worked fine for a while but bogged down when too many wet leaves or limbs were vacuumed. The blower is not very good and I would recommend using a different brand blower for that function. I wouldn’t purchase this for the blower. My first reaction was to send it back but to be fair, I still needed something for small applications of leaves in certain areas of my home so I decided to wait a few days for the leaves to dry out. That day came and I am beyond happy with the results. In the mulching mode the Worx vacuumed and mulched with no effort. I think it will last because the mulching blades are metal and not plastic or weed-eater trim-line. The design of the chute (tube that the leaves travel through to the blades) is done very well. I don’t know if they did that on purpose but you can scoop the leaves and they seem to get vacuumed very easy. Also, if you accidently scoop up a branch and it starts making noise at the mulching end, the chute easily can be opened with a push button to access the mulching blades and clean it out. And the machine won’t turn on unless you close it back up as a safety feature. Occasionally I had to push a clump of leaves into the chute because the vacuum would cause them to cover the entrance of it but that is well away from the mulching blades making it not a problem and safe. The bag attachment is another great design. It easily goes on by pushing it onto the unit and comes off with the push of a clip. It’s very secure. Some reviewers have complained about the design of the bag itself in terms of carrying it. I see what they are saying and agree, however, I’m not sure how you would design it differently. The straps are very long so instead of putting them on my right shoulder as seen in the ads, I put the straps over my head and on to the left shoulder. It seems to “ride” better that way. And about the complaints of the zipper; I don’t know how else to design that but like anything, if you don’t man-handle it but carefully pull it open and zip it shut it appears to be working as it should. You will get dust from the mulch. I wipe it off the zipper area with my hand when emptying the bag. I also read complaints about the continuous emptying of the bag. First, if you use the bag, it will get heavy. Personally I think it’s just the right size to fill up to when the weight is enough to where you want to empty it. Otherwise it would get too heavy. I put a 42 gallon black lawn trash bag in a small garbage can (you can get anywhere) and empty the bag in that. It takes about six bags before filling up which is quite a few leaves. In summary (as my opinion based on using it); I would buy this for use for dry leaves. It’s designed well, the price is right due to it being electric and not battery operated, the zipper works fine as long as you take care of it, the bag can be worn in an ergonomic way, it appears to be durable and therefore reliable and I would not buy it for the blower feature. I’m very happy with this purchase.

Long-term review: I've gone through autumn seasons with this unit, and it is the worst yard maintenance unit I've owned. I bought this and WORX WA4054.2 LeafPro Universal Leaf Collection System together to vacuum and mulch as much as possible into trash bins to tote to the end of the yard, and then use the blower function for anything remaining. Pros • It's orange and black, if you like orange, or black. Cons • It's heavy. Very heavy. Like, your arm feels like a wet noodle for the rest of the day heavy. • There's no way to detach any vacuum pieces from it when you're using it as a blower and no way to remove any blower pieces from it when you're using it as a vacuum. Did I mention it's heavy? Maybe that's why. • My grandma's 70-year-old household vacuum cleaner has more suction power than this thing. If you're trying to vacuum up any leaves other than dried and crispy tiny leaves, don't expect this unit to do much. • It has a contraption on the side to move back and forth between blower and vacuum. Neither work very well and it rarely stays in the position where you put it. This means you're losing blowing/vacuuming power constantly. • When in vacuum mode, the contraption on the side still allows leaves to clog up behind it. Good luck trying to clean it out. PLEASE make sure you unplug the thing before trying to unclog it because you'll be digging around those metal blades with your fingers for quite a while to unclog it. While you were spending time unclogging it, many more leaves have fallen on your yard that you'll need to attend to. • The diameter of the various vacuum sections makes no sense. The main entrance for the vacuum is large enough to put your foot in it. That bottlenecks down into the clog-prone contraption-thing, which then goes into a larger, but smaller than the entrance, hose that goes out into the WORX WA4054.2 LeafPro Universal Leaf Collection System. So, you're sending leaves through at least 3 different diameter pieces with a huge bottleneck at the clog point where the metal blades and your fingers do battle. • Did I mention it's beastly heavy? • The leaf blower portion is really bad. It's tucked up underneath the worthless leaf vacuum piece. So, when you're using both hands to hold this behemoth, the blower is completely out of sight and difficult to determine where to even point it. • Since you can't remove the leaf vacuum portion, good luck trying to get the blower portion into tight spaces, like under a car, under a shrub, around a lamp post, etc. • It's still heavy, like the people that created this thing went out of their way to see how heavy they could make a hand-held yard maintenance unit. • The power switch is horrible. You need superman's grip to turn it on or off, or you must use both hands to move the switch. Apparently, the people that designed this thing knew it was so bad, they didn't want you to turn it on and realize how bad it is. So, 2 hours into your yard-torture with this thing, when you've no energy left from carrying around it's elephantine weight, you'll have to muster enough strength to actually be able to turn it off (or on and off and on and off repeatedly as you unclog the unit repeatedly as you're using it). Summary • I'd rather pick up each individual leaf in my yard and carry it to curbside than deal with this unit. Waste of money, waste of time. Save yourself the pain and stay away from this unit.

I am very happy with this tool. Well. Don't expect it to do miracles. I mostly compare it with my old gas powered poulan pro vacuum. That vacuum was working great, mmmm, when it actually started and when it actually worked. It used to constantly get clogged from the slightest non standard debri. For example, from a light covid mask, or a leaf which was simply big. To clean the debri was always a nightmare. To change the mode from vacuum to blower was a major mechanical exercise. In the end it caught some sort a debri, which I didn't even notice first, and went bust. This one has all the advantages, alas it is cable powered. Which is a disadvantage, but it is still better than taking out your tool box every time you need to vacuum the leaves. It is also twice cheaper. I like the mulching feature, the fact that switching from vacuum to blower is of no effort, well, the blower's power is like you blow with your mouth, but for close distances it's ok, I guess. The suction seems to be not so bad for an electric tool. The gas one was certainly way more powerful. But this is something I had expected anyway. Overall, if you want to have a residential leaf vacuum, you should own it. The question is: does one really need a leaf vacuum as the same effect with approximately the same time and effort can be achieved by using a powerful blower with an old fashioned broom? This I leave to you.
