It has also been possible to recut mounts as long as you put some scrap in the old cutout to support the cutter. All in all well worth having despite the minor problems. How large of a mat can you cut with this system? Could you cut a mat for a 16x20 frame?** A: I haven't cut a mat that large (yet) but the mat cutter is 24" long so I don't see why you couldn't cut a mat for a 16x20 frame. **Q: Are the ruler measurements in mm (metric) or just inches (imperial)?** A: Yes , it is marked in mm(metric) as well as inches(imperial). "This practical combo mat and board cutting system includes a 24″ (61cm) straight edge..." If you look closely at the photo you can see the mm marks. **Q: does straight blade hook onto guiding system?** A: No. The straight blade is a separate tool that is in the box. However, both the straight blade tool and the bevel cutting tool use the same replacement blades. If I recall correctly you will get 5 or 6 replacement blades in the box. Think of the "straight blade" as an ultra sharp box cutter. BTW. I have made matted 8-10 largish photos since I purchased this matt cutter. It does a very adaquet job.
