The African Queen [4K UHD]

Great documentary on the life of Humphrey Bogart.

It’s obviously a classic film and Bogart and Hepburn shine in their roles and they share great chemistry. The film is really funny at times due to the actors but the odds are definitely against them as they ride in the African Queen. The film has never looked better; this 4K edition gives great and sharp images. I greatly enjoyed it.

This documentary, narrated by Bogie’s son Stephen and others, shows Bogie’s life in relation to the women in his life — his rather cold mother and his four wives. I thought I’d read a lot about Bogie, but this film provided new information. It shows his faults as well as his good points, but I came out liking him anyway. Of course, his romance with Bacall is a highlight, but his other wives and their effect on him and his career were featured as well. An enjoyable film.

I am a big Bogart (and Bacall) fan and I know I'll watch this excellent in-depth production many, many times, even if I just play it in the background while I do other things, including sleep. Bogart is an example of someone working hard at what they enjoy while also enjoying life outside of work. And an example that it is possible to find an ideal match spouse-wise even after one or more failed attempts. He was in some great movies that I have enjoyed over and over for many decades.

This documentary was pretty good. I enjoyed listening to the stars talk about Mr. Bogart.

Good movie.

I was worried that I would be disappointed, but this doc will not disappoint any Bogart fan. I loved the tone and the fearlessness of the documentary makers. We find out that Bogart was a flawed human, along with being the amazing actor that we will always enjoy. This goes far beyond the Bogie and Bacall narrative that we've become so accustomed to. Highly recommend!

This has got to be one of my favourite films; and boy does the 4K disc look fantastic. It replaces a 4K-scanned Blu-ray which also looks very good, but this is just that bit better. "Recently" I "invested" in a 4K-player (Black Friday bargain) as this would open up for more imports from the US without having to bother with a region-free player; and this film on a 4K disc was high on my wish list. I haven't been disappointed by the result! It simply looks stunning and sounds great as well. Katherine Hepburn & Humphrey Bogart are superb throughout the film. Jack Cardiff's cinematography is out of the world; not only the general look of the movie but also shots that baffles you - how this was possible on a very tough location shoot. John Huston directs with his usual aplomb and the dialogue is snappy and witty. The 4K disc set (includes a Blu-ray disc) comes with all the extras, plus one new commentary track, as the "Masters of Cinema" edition, but without the book. So I've now slipped the new discs into that package. Watched this with my wife and our 22 y. old son; like me they both thought it looked and sounded brilliant.

My Studio Canal 4K UHD case I got contains ONE 4K UHD (Region A-B-C) AND one Blu-ray disc (Region B only) of the movie (See Photo). Product details says number of discs included is 1 disc only but it comes with 2. The Blu-ray copy however will NOT play on my region A Blu-ray player OR my 4K UHD player here in Canada but the 4K multi region disc does play on my 4K UHD player. For me this is OK as getting the 4K disc was worth it as the picture quality of this great movie was worth it and I already have a Region A Blu-ray disc I got years ago.

Love the African Queen so brought the blu ray version for my wife’s birthday. She was so happy with it. The blu ray version is superb. Well worth it. 🤩
