The book is easy to read, very substantive, and immediately practical. I read it when it first came out and found it to be valuable in my own teaching and, as well, as a source of guidance for my own adult children as they raise their children (my grandchildren). It has been required reading in one of my graduate education classes. Not surprisingly, those students, most with child development and early education backgrounds, found it to confirm their own best instincts and an inspiration to their future perspectives and professional actions. I strongly recommend it.

This book was recommended to me by another mom. It is reassuring, inspiring and powerful! It is an easy read with many concrete examples of how to make kindness and good character a centerpiece in your family. Who doesn’t want to raise children that are kind? Dr. Lickona is a wealth of knowledge. I guarantee this book will impact how you choose to parent your children!

Solid, sound advice that proves some things shouldn't change...Dr. Lickona gives parents, and anyone working with children, a wonderful approach to the seemingly impossible task of raising children who would rather give than take in this world of entitlement. A practical, hands-on guide every family needs!

I found this book useful for thinking ahead about my almost five year old. There are a few quick fix solutions that use religion, so it’s more difficult to envision some solutions that do not rely on that ready-made solution. Otherwise I highlighted a lot of advice and resources to circle back to!

I wish all parents would read this book! We all want our kids to be kind, this book is full of practical advice toward that goal. The author shows us that love and respect are equally important to give and teach our children. It's full of research and examples, an easy read that is non-patronizing. Being an employed mom of three energetic young kids, it's nice to have a set of guidelines to refer back too when things get chaotic. He helps set realistic family goals to make us all happier, more gracious, and considerate to one another. This world needs more kindness, thank you Dr. Lickona!
