Excellent grammar for Biblical Aramaic
I got this for a class I was taking. At first, I found the format overwhelming. But the professor insisted we work on grammar and vocabulary for twenty minutes a day, five days a week for the entire semester. The vocab came quickly, so I ended up spending most of my twenty minutes a day reading and rereading the grammar. I came to really love this grammar. It made my time in the class enjoyable and profitable.

This is an old grammar. It has all the essentials, they are just difficult to find - not well layed out, old type-facing, difficult to understand. If you are only getting one Aramaic Grammer, get Johns - it’s more up-to-date.

Excellent resource!
Rosenthal is a necessary piece for the study of Aramaic - if paired with a more accessible grammar, its density is quickly dealt with and its depth of consideration of phenomena is magnified as useful. If you don't have this resource, get it now!

An updated edition I needed for teaching.

Great Grammar!
Would have given it 5 stars had there been more examples and paradigms of weak letter roots. However a very thorough work which should be a part of every serious Aramaic student's library.

Do you like 1961 typeface and organization? Then this book is for you! Nothing modern here.
Poor typeface. Poor writing style. Text is poorly organized. We have come a long way since 1961 (the first edition) in our understanding of how to present text to a reader for easy reading, and this edition applies none of that advancement.Given the price it is sold at, this is hardly excusable. Spend some money and hire someone to organize/present things properly, we're no longer in 1961.
