Do you want a portable cooler that works? this one does.
Decided to review this product because there are so many small coolers based on Peltier (thermo-electric) tech on the market with performance claims that are utter junk, buyers need to know if their hard earned cash will buy a good or bad product. How does this one perform?I needed a cooler that is guaranteed to hold meds at set temperature of 8C in ambient's up to 30C. Prior to purchase I discussed this with the vendor. It was a pain free chat, yes surprisingly one of the few Chinese vendors that understand EN language & how their product performs in market, the higher rated 70W version was recommended for my end use.Order placed 22 September, arrived 2 October, China > UK, not bad, well packed robust carton. The product is visually exactly as depicted, the lid & seal design is such it optimizes insulation by baffling the elastomeric seal to exterior air interface. Be aware the operating instructions are in Chinese, the cables supplied are mains power flat bi pin & an auto cable with the normal 'cigar lighter' connector. Easy enough to change the mains plug to a UK 3 pin, use an adapter or buy a new cable, what ever your choice.The temperature setting controls are very simple: on/off, set point up / down & save, does not get any easier, ambient air temp has dropped down to 25C in my location so unable to test at upper 20's / 30C. However at at an ambient of 25C flat out it oscillates between -6C /-7C , the displayed temperature matched my K thermocouple thermometer, happy with that outcome. Given it has a 14C buffer to cope with an ambient 5/6C higher its a good bet that the unit will hold 8C at an ambient of 30C even allowing for the loss of cooling efficiency normally displayed by Peltier devices as they reach their maximum capability.Cant speak for durability of the unit but the only moving parts are the heat exchanger fans. This design has two heat exchanger units so two fans they are normally quite robust as witnessed by PC's. Should a fan fail there are three screws under the lower front edge, release gives access to the heat exchanger units / standard 92 mm 12 volt fans.All up its the best design I have seen and it works to me worth the asking price esp if you have heat labile maybe very expensive meds you need to keep cool.
