Classic Wodehouse...if you haven't read anything by him, you really should!
PG Wodehouse always makes me chuckle. You almost want to be mad at Bertram Wooster for being so shallow and superficial (not to mention not-too-bright), but you can't help but find him loveable. The characters are fun, the story is implausable, but its all in good fun. I won't give away the plot, there is no need...if you've read any Wodehouse at all, the formula is essentially the same, and always clever and enjoyable.I DO read real, sometimes "heavy" literature on a pretty regular basis, but sometimes I don't want to immerse myself in something heavy (love Game of Thrones and all that, but sometimes it's just more than I want to concentrate on). Pick up a Jeeves and Wooster book (anyone will do..you can read them in order if you want, but it's not necessary), and escape to a different time and place, where the problems are silly, and the characters broadly drawn. Is life maybe idylic? Not for Bertie, who is always getting into some type of scrape or another. But things always wrap up nicely by the end of the book, and all is well with the world. My wife always knows when I'm reading Wodehouse, because I can't help but chuckle every so often...and that's a good thing!

Absolutely love Wodehouse books!
This happens to be a Jeeves book and they are wonderful, but I have never read any bad Wodehouse! If you want to be in a good mood everyday, I recommend reading these books-fortunately there are many Wodehouse titles out there!

Delightful
These stories are a treat to read , the characters are vivid and completely believable . You catch yourself laughing out loud . Bertie is the “English gentleman “ but Jeeves is the brains of the operation . Jeeves has his hands full keeping Bertie in style and out of trouble . . A delight for people who love a good turn of a phrase , a stroll thru the English language , and a good laugh. These should be made into movies .

Vintage Wodehouse
Literary masterpieces often come in the most unexpected ways: who would ever have imagined that "The Little Prince" would still be selling (and selling well) in some 30 languages? Similarly, the original publisher of "The Lord of the Rings" felt that he knew two things for certain when he accepted the manuscript. First, it was a modern masterpiece. Second, he was going to lose a bunch of money printing it. Happily, he was wrong about the second point.P. G. Wodehouse is yet another example: who could have imagined that stories about a dim-witted drone and his valet would crack that magic line and ascend into literary immortality? How did that happen? For one thing, Wodehouse was an absolute master of the English language. He could use cliche, and use it artfully, like no other writer. Second, to mention the obvious, he was terribly funny. And third, he was a master of plot and subplot, sometimes managing to bring three or four of them to a satisfactory (and hilarious) resolution within two pages. That's my try at an explanation, but Bertie and Jeeves live on in their imaginary world, and I suspect will continue doing so for a long, long time.Highest recommendation!

PG Wodehouse - Short Stories
A nice book to read before reading the Birdie Wooster / Jeeves novels. The short stories provide a nice introduction to the main and minor characters set in Britain's pre-war aristocratic class system.P.G. Wodehouse writing style is wonderfully upper crust British combined with generational slang. A real vocabulary builder.

Great light summer reading
Very clever stories. Funny English terms. Cute stories and loveable characters. Nice that each chapter a story unto itself, but also relates to previous chapters.

English humor, you have to get used to it.
Bertie is always in trouble and Jeeves always bails him out. The books seem to give a good look at the "upper class" at the turn of the century, according to Wodehouse.

A good read indeed sir!
I've started reading the Jeeves books after watching the series with Stephen (I think he prefers it spelt that way) Fry and Hugh Laurie (He's the guy that Americans are surprised to learn is English and does a great American accent and not the other way round). I realise that the TV series has remained true to the original stories as much as possible. The only problem with the TV series is that some of the characters are played by different actors/actresses throughout the series. Sometimes for the better other times not. They should never have changed Bingo Little but they should have used the last actress for Madeleine Bassett from the very beginning. Anyway, with this in mind you can image the actor you prefer while you read along. P. G. Wodehouse was a genius. He inspired an internet search engine posthumously. How many can make that claim?

Superlatively witty and outrageously funny
If you haven't experienced the perennial delights of Jeeves and Wooster then this is an excellent place to start. Bertie Wooster (an "Abysmal Chump" in the words of his formidable Aunt Dahlia) is forever getting himself into a fix and, despite his own confidence, only Jeeves can come up with a solution. In this collection we revisit Bingo Little and his romance-writing wife, Tuppy and his ferocius father Sir Roderick Glossop who thinks an asylum is the only appropriate place for Bertie, the irrepresible Bobbie Wickham, and Bertie's sweet Uncle George who wants to marry the waitress from the bun-shop...Wodehouse's language is sublime, his plotting immaculate, and his ability to reveal the absurd and ridiculous untouched. I love all the Jeeves & Wooster stories which bear constant re-reading - highly recommended.

Jeeves has the solution to your boring car journey.
Martin Jarvis for me is the most able of all the readers. This is a reading of the unique Wodehouse humour by the best reader of his works. Makes the car journey so much more enjoyable. Congratulations to all concerned.A number of relatively short Wooster and Jeeves stories from "Very Good Jeeves" make up this compilation. Fortunately Volume 2 is already available to be purchased, and has been by me ready for the return journey. Enjoy, as you know you will.

Always a joy.
I have wanted to read cheerful stories, full of wit and brilliantly descriptive language in this time of the pandemic. Reading about the exploits of Bertie Wooster and the ever resourceful Jeeves has been heaven.
