To master the dark and wring compelling creativity from its densest shadows requires vision, belief and, perhaps most importantly, a dash of synchronicity. These are all qualities that ooze from every pore of the debut album by The Oath. A band forged around the fizzing, feral chemistry between Swedish guitarist Linnea Olsson and German vocalist Johanna Sadonis, The Oath represent the wild magic that erupts when two blazing souls collide and fate is sent veering off course by sheer strength of the human will. This is heavy metal at its most mercurial and intuitive. Veering from the strident grooves and shimmering menace of opener All Must Die to the breakneck, Luciferian clatter of Black Rainbow and on to the spine-tingling grandeur and grime of epic closer Psalm 7, The Oath is anything but just another addition to the modern pseudo-occult rock canon. Instead, it is an extraordinary glimpse into its creators overpowering charisma and chemistry and a thrillingly, hyper-nourishing dose of authentic, 21st century heavy metal sorcery. With input from In Solitudes Henke Palm - who contributes some improvised Voivod-style solos, according to Linnea and logo designed courtesy of Watains Erik Danielson, this is an album that exudes ageless style and irresistible substance: a potent antidote to the flimsy fripperies of the modern age.

AWESOME!!!
Amazing album. I am apparently late to the party on this one. So late in fact that the party is alreeady over as the band is no longer together. The songs rival that of Clutch, red fang and Windhand. it has a Sabbath vibe to it with a gal who can really sing. Great riffs on the guitar...and no song left me dry. One of the best albums I have heard in years!

The Oath Beckons
This is a really neat album from start to finish. The first time I spun the disc I was immediately hit with how simple but catchy the riffs were, and I fell in love with that smokey sultry voice. It really grabs you and adds itself perfectly to the music. The more I spun the record though, the less I have found myself coming back to it. There were a few stand out tracks in the beginning, my favorite being Black Rainbow, but that too has wained. The music isn't intricate and at the end of the day, it doesn't need to be. This is a great album to lounge around to and have a beer, maybe pick up a book. While the music isn't really the same, I've also found myself gravitating towards the band Christian Mistress and their debut full length, Possession. Great female fronted band as well, and more up tempo song structures.

I was really surprised by this album. I played it loud on Halloween while I gave out candy to trick-or-treaters.

One of the best CD's I've ever heard!
I don't write many reviews but I had to make an exception in this case. I haven't stopped listening to this CD since I got it. I'm addicted to it! If you're into classic hard rock this CD is a must. When I listen to it, bands that immediately come to mind are Led Zeppelin, Heart, The Scorpions, Budgie, Black Sabbath to name a few. The guitar work is phenomenal! Awesome riffs! The vocals are insane! What a voice! Impeccable songwriting! And the rhythm section kicks ass! One of the best drummers I've ever heard! I can't say enough about this CD. And to top it off, these chicks are smokin hot!!! Apparently the band is no longer together. That sucks!!!!! If they stayed together I think they would've been hugely successful. What a shame. I would've loved to have seen them live. But thank God we have this CD!

Great band
Bought this based off a review of them in a magazine and I was not disappointed. Great take on doom metal. If you like doom metal with hot females in there, check this out. You won't be let down.
