After Silence: Rape and My Journey Back Paperback – 20 Jan. 2000

I read this book many years ago before I had found my own voice and was able to speak out about being gang raped. It was such a powerful read to me and at that stage in my life I was amazed by her honesty and her fight to get back to her un raped self to be fully alive. I understand so well about the shame and stigma and how it can silence victims of rape. The more of us that find our voice and speak out the better to help the shame, stigma and silence that surrounds sexual violence

I want to thank the author for sharing her experiences and inner most thoughts about such a traumatic and life-changing subject. Her words have helped give me hope on my journey as I deal with a similar event. This book has touched my soul and at times resonated deep within my very core. There will never be a way to express just how much of an impact her words have had on me. This is a must read for anyone trying to regain some sense of self after having your spirit broken. Highly recommend!

This book is the memoir of a rape survior which mostly concentrates on the aftermath of rape. I think this is a very ignored subject but one which is important to acknoledge. It really goes in-depth about how rape has an affect on person's life and how society poorly responds to that affect.It's an informative book which is usful for anybody wanting to understand about the subject. As well as giving her memoir Nancy gives a lot of facts about rape which helps to improve your knowledge and changes attitudes.

Heartbreaking but so well written by a very brave lady. She has refused to let her truly terrible experience cow her and she comes through It all with this wonderfully life affirming book. I bow before her.

Being a (less than a year) R survivor I was looking for a book to read, to help me feel less alone. I'm only two chapters in but it does just that. Although our situations weren't the same, the feelings described are that I can relate to. It's a breath of fresh air for me.
