You're Sober...Now What?

Dr. Berger uses his long experience as a practicing therapist to integrate recovery theory (Wilson, Larsen, Tiebout) with important research in psychology (Milgram, Frankl, Satir), to illustrate key concepts on how to maintain and strengthen emotional sobriety.Although Dr.Berger’s approach is consistent with a 12 Step approach, he is not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom discussed in the rooms of recovery. Indeed, some of his ideas are so original and thought-provoking that I found myself pondering (and agreeing with) key points days after finishing the book.Although the book addresses issues in recovery, it would also be of interest to a broader audience. His writing style is clear and direct. He uses stories and patient narratives to illustrate key concepts, so his points are easy to understand even to readers not in the recovery community. In fact, I have purchased and given this book to friends, and received very positive feedback. It seems Dr. Berger’s approach is effective not only to people in recovery, but also, to all of us who suffer from the human condition.

Easy read. Solid foundation for growth.

I really like this book. Good solid information for those who actively engage in their recovery. I use this book in group discussions and mentoring as well as continuing to progress personally. The best thing about this book and the one that preceded it, is that it has great information for just being a better version of you. It can still help create a solid foundation for personal growth even outside the box of addiction.

A must for people in recovery

Any recovery book written by Allen Berger is a must have. The books are not thick, physically, but it is very good, 'thick' writing. Every page is packed with good info, not a lot of fluff. It teaches me a new form of thinking. This is my 2nd book of his and I WILL be getting the other two. I can honestly say that these are my favorite recovery books.

Recovering beyond sobriety

This goes beyond basic sobriety and starts to uncover challenges we face in life as recovering people. We don't recover emotionally just because we are sober, and this book helps you see how that can be recovered too.

How to return to a joyful life after stopping addiction

Best advice I’ve heard in many years for anyone who has stopped using substances addictively. The substances are not the problem and as Allen repeats ‘The problem is how we react to it.’ A well written and structured layout on what to tackle after stopping and hopefully achieve emotional sobriety by finding an authentic real identity. Have already recommended to all I know in recovery from alcohol and drugs
