What you need to know before purchase...
First, I LOVE Froud's work. The two-star review is only for this particular edition of this book (ie, the 'Revised and Expanded' 2019 edition). In the other reviews on this page, Amazon fails to distinguish this edition from the (absolutely superb) earlier one, and most of the glowing reviews are for the earlier edition, I think - the video certainly is.So, a comparison:What's new? about a dozen pages at the end of the book. These include an interview with the artist and one or two other bits and pieces. So far, so good. But what's missing? The earlier version came with a dust jacket (with a different and beautiful cover below it.) This one has no dust jacket. Most disappointing, the earlier edition had lots of fun little inserts - little booklets of pictures that you could take out and read separately. This edition does away with that, and instead, on the page where the booklet would have been, there are just much smaller pictures of the booklet's individual pages - sometimes practically thumbnails in comparison to the original. Very disappointing, and a bit cheapskate.More than that is missing - the previous edition came with a DVD. No DVD with this edition. There are some totally inexplicable changes - the... endpieces? Is that the right word? Basically, the first pages inside the cover of the book... They're different, and not nearly as nice to look at. WHY would they change that? And just to add insult to injury, this book actually FEELS a bit cheap when compared to the previous one. When open, the stitching is clearly visible on most of the pages, and it just doesn't feel as well put-together.The illustrations and content are absolutely wonderful, and if you can't pick up a copy of the previous edition, you'll probably still love this. But I would STRONGLY advise you to see if you can find a copy of the 2007 edition, and be sure to check with the seller that it still includes all the inserts. Comparing it to this is like comparing a multi-course banquet to a Big Mac.

A beautiful and mysterious world revealed
The media could not be loaded. Brian Froud has illustrated several books on faeries but Brian Froud's World of Faerie is the most lavish art book yet.The book is beautifully constructed and filled with masterful paintings and sketches printed on low gloss paper. Just like other books published by Insight Editions, there are also several little booklets pasted onto the pages. At the end of the book in an envelope is a poster of a poem by Neil Gaiman. He paints as if he's beside the faeries themselves. His commentary introduces us to the world and secrets of faeries, showing us the many disguises and types of faeries. He even has his own interpretation for classic stories like Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.There are not just faeries but other mysterious creatures like unicorns, trolls, green women and phyllomantic men. Phyllomancy is the art of divination by listening to the rustling of leaves. Interesting details like such accompany the paintings. This is a nice book for fantasy art lovers or fans of Brian Froud.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

what an absolutely stunning book!
This book now has pride of place on my bookshelf. It has so much crammed in between its covers - lots of old Froud favourites as well as some stunning new artwork, and lots of writing giving a real insight into Brian's mind and the world he does a beautiful job of illustrating. I cant recommend this book highly enough - if I could give it ten stars, I would!
