An Incredible, Incredible game-but not without some caveats
It's only January and Resident Evil 2 has already established itself as the game to beat for Game of The Year 2019. I cannot give this game enough praise for blowing me away with its playability, its graphics, its super likeable characters, atmospheric setting, etc. I never played the original (couldn't get past the tank controls) but I'm a huge fan of the series as a whole, so I've been anticipating this for quite some time. I am quite pleased to say that this game is fairly nearly flawless from beginning to end. I did find some aspects of this game extremely frustrating however, even after playing both campaigns twice. The most frustrating part of Resident Evil 2 is the bullet-sponge nature of the enemies. Bullet sponginess is all well in good in a game like Gears of War where ammo is in ample supply but in a game where conserving ammo is key it's ridiculous. There is a female zombie on the east 2nd level of the main hall that I shot with several rounds from the machine gun, sliced about four times across the face with a knife, shot another five times with my handgun before she finally went down only to have her get back up then I had to shoot her 6 more times with my handgun. Unacceptable. Not all zombies in the game are this difficult to put down, but it happens far to frequently and its frustrating. I've played through all the numbered RE games except for 3 and I've NEVER had to deal with this kind of ridiculous damage amount. It made the game less fun than it should've been. Oh and headshots? Why bother. I can score several consecutive headshots and it makes little difference in the end. Another gripe I have with RE 2 is the incredible difficulty spikes. I refuse to drop the difficulty down to assisted when I can more than handle the normal settings. That being said, when it comes to boss time, the bosses jump the difficulty about four fold. When I fought William Birkin's final form on my first playthrough I wanted to slam dunk my controller to the ground. This game has incredible pacing until you get to the bosses, than the frustration level just shoots through the roof. Speaking of bosses, here is where I give a criticism of the game and the RE Series as a whole. Not all of the games in the series are guilty of this, but the RE series LOVES to reuse the same d*mn bosses over and over and over and over and over and over again. Can't we have some variety? How many frickin' times do I have to kill William Birkin before the D-Bag finally stays dead? A little variety goes a long way. These frustrations aside, Resident Evil 2 is still an incredible game. I don't think anyone could argue the polish that has been given to this game. I'm envious of the players who grew up with the original as I can only imagine the nostalgia factor is through the roof. Every facet of this game just is polished to a fine sheen and it's just incredible. Not once did I run into any bugs and the game is not stuffed with microtransaction B.S. After playing through this and Resident Evil 7 I have never been more excited for the future of the series. This game is why I play videogames.

Excellent game, better than the original overall
I played the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 back in their prime. They were great, tense games with fulfilling puzzles and a rewarding learning curve. But the reality is that those games have not aged well in either their visuals or controls. RE2 Remake takes the bold approach in creating a brand-new game that seeks to recapture the feel the original, rather than just update it with a fresh coat of paint. While this is normally a recipe for disaster, the developers have managed to succeed in a way that only true fans of the original could have. They have done the impossible: make shambling zombies threatening again. I have two nitpicks with the game, with the first being just how short it is. This of course will vary greatly from person to person, but for me clocked in at about 5 hours for my first run. And while there is the "second run" and other modes and characters to play as, a lot of this is just retreading the same content over and over, and it doesn't excuse a shorter main story. At least not with a 60$ price tag. My second nitpick is how few weapons are available in each run. Leon and Claire both get 5-6 different weapons, which is nice, but those weapons are exclusive to the characters. Leon never gets the SMG or grenade launcher, and Claire never gets the shotgun or flamethrower. And while this does add some distinction to each character's playthrough, and is true to the original, it also really limits each playthrough when compared to RE4 where you could pick your loadout from a large selection of weapons (and upgrades too). I think the limited inventory space plus the new gunpowder mechanic BEGS for an abundance of weapons to really test the player's management. Overall, the game is great and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre, even if you are new to the series.

Cheers to Capcom!
I would just like to say Wow! Thank you Capcom. Resident Evil 2 is amazing, I owned the original RE1 in '96 owned this RE2 original in '98. This game is so great, in many ways. This new version remade from the ground up is freaking awesome. It's up to date, less clunky, super scary, the graphics are top notch, even how they added the touchs to the map, was a smart idea. I love how it marks items and puzzles for you, unless you memorized every room it was a pain in the butt to run around in circles trying to remember where you needed to go, no need to do that anymore. Everything is better, the camera, the gore, this is why I have given it 5 stars. Several friends bought the game as well and all agreed, I highly recommend.

Shockingly good
I knew absolutely nothing about this remake until about a week before it came out. I've destroyed the OG RE2 like 10,019 times so I blindly bought this out of nostalgia and respect for my romance with RE2. As everyone knows, RE has fallen from grace ever since RE4.. despite RE4 still being a fantastic game, it just derailed the series. RE2 Remake is a true return to form. This game is everything I could've wanted from a remake and I think between this and RE7, it's safe to say that this series is back. I highly recommend this game to OG RE fans who grew up playing these games in the 90s. Tyrant is a bit annoying and those feelings wont change for me. I've beat all scenarios and he still feels like he should've been toned down. Sort of doesn't match the tempo of the game. On subsequent playthoughs you'll get familiar with how he's triggered in each scenario, then you can complete whatever you need to at RPD before triggering him. He's not unmanageable, but I greatly prefer how OG RE2 handled his encounters. RE IS BACK

A Great Remake, and Awesome Return to Survival Horror
I have not played the original Resident Evil 2 (I was introduced to the series with Resident Evil 4), so I do not completely know how it compares to the original 1998 game. However, if you are a fan of scary games, Resident Evil in general, and you liked RE4, classic RE, and/or RE7, you will for sure enjoy this game if you buy it. Alongside RE7, RE2 remake is a return to form for the series, after having the past several games (RE5, RE6, Revelations 1, Revelations 2) either attempt to be outright action-based third person shooter-ish games akin to Gears of War, or attempts to be more horror-based but not as far as it could’ve been (Revelations 2 to an extent, for example), Resident Evil 2 remake is the second Resident Evil game to bring the series back to what it used to be pre-Resident Evil 5. You are not loaded with hundreds of rounds for your weapons, and the aiming is designed to be difficult to place a well-timed headshot on enemies, and even then, it’s a bit random to know how many shots to the head will kill a zombie. All the while, most places of the game are shrouded in complete darkness, alongside having to avoid a powerful, unkillable enemy for most of the game. You get to choose between playing as Leon or Claire. Whoever you play as first, you will have the option to play as second to understand what they went through during their perspective of the game’s events. Your first playthrough will go through one series of events, and the other will experience the other series of events. If you play as Leon first, then Claire will experience the second set of events, and vice-versa. Your second playthrough will have you go through some of the same areas and do some of the same things, but change how things occurred the first time you played in order to throw you off, confuse you, and surprise you, so don’t expect a complete repeat of your first playthough. Unlike RE5 and RE6 (and the Revelations games to a lesser extent) and similar to RE7, this game is an all-out and serious attempt at horror. There is minimal old-school Resident Evil cheesiness, and the graphics of the RE Engine make the game look very photorealistic. The story is engaging, characters are voiced with good acting and believability, and the backstory is laid out throughout various journals and diaries to make things even more interesting. The gameplay is also more reminiscent of RE4 meets classic RE, instead of being in first person like RE7. There are no fixed camera angles or tank controls like the Pre-RE4 Resident Evil games. After beating the main game as both characters, there is also some mini game alternate “what-if” scenarios to play through for some added replay value. There are other difficulty modes to check out if you’re interested, too. Anyway, if you are a Resident Evil fan, and were a huge fan of the series before Capcom attempted “broadening” Resident Evil’s appeal with the games that came out after Resident Evil 4 but prior to Resident Evil 7, you will love this game. If you are a fan of other horror series, such as Dead Space, The Evil Within, or Silent Hill, you will also be a fan of RE2 Remake. Resident Evil has a good future again if things keep going this way.

Resident Evil reimagined not remade
Resident Evil 2 a reimagining not remake, Capcom never said it was a remake, what this reimagining is Imo, is a all new take of Leon and Claire original story, while making it fresh and new, they made changes to the story, and the environments, and the character designs, while keeping the spirit of the original game, which they never did in the resident Evil 1 remake, they kept the story the same, the character design the same, and the environments and layout are the same, the puzzles were the same, but the new puzzles changes was added to one or two of the classic puzzles it was needed but was still the same puzzle, they add on top it by adding new environments, a new boss, a new enemy if this was a real remake they would never redesign Leon and Claire's looks the raccoon City Police Department would look the same and it would have new environments, new enemies and bosses, and not jumble everything around like the SOME of environment itself, and have all new puzzles, no original puzzles, I know this caters to a new crowd hard, because I know it's not the original developers, like Shinji mikami, that man is like what Resident Evil is to George Lucas Star Wars, that's why I don't classify this as a true remake, that being said I dont respect it, and it will never be on par with the original let alone surpass it, there's a reason why the original Resident Evil 1 remake is known as the definitive Resident Evil, and this game this game isn't meant for me obviously, but don't get me wrong, I think this is a good game, but has problems, so I'll get to my review, this is just my opinion, and as always try to keep my biased out of it, and my apologies for ranting so make of me as you will, [The good] the game plays tight solid and fun and it has that classic Resident Evil feel and expiration their strategy and how to deal with your enemies but I'll let the game do the talkin the game is scary enemies and monsters look terrifying and disfigured, zombies are tougher than before and it makes you think how to go about using your ammo wisely item management and resource management is back, you will have a blast playing this game, [The bad] the A and B scenarios and the story are mess, they don't even collide with each other, it just feels like you're playing another version of the A scenario, just with a different beginning, and nothing you do in the A scenario changes in this B scenario, just more paths are open to you, enemies are missing the ivy was disappointing, it's just a zombie but with vines on it and it can one shot you, they don't even spit out poison acid, and how you take them down they mimic from Resident Evil Revelations, and Resident Evil 4, and resident Evil 5, no new enemies, and the only puzzle that I had a problem with what's the chest piece it feels like a waste of time, If you are a fan of the over-the-shoulder Resident Evil 4 - 5 Style controls, and the classic style gameplay of the original first two Resident Evil games this is is made for you, but you looking for a real Shinji mikami remake then this ain't that,

now this is what resident evil roots looks like NOT RE7
i'm going to start off with the con's first i'm not a big fan on remakes and reboots and remasters and i love the original but my biggest complaint is that the voice actor for Leon Scott Kennedy is that he doesn't look nor sound like Leon at all not even any of all of the previous ones but then again the original re2 voice actor for leon: Paul Haddad sounded like a sissy before capcom found Matthew Mercer who became a stapled voice for leon s. Kennedy including the cg motion pictures and re6 game and rather hear him and not Nick Apostolides because his voice and face for that character is out of place i would've also rather hear johann urb who played leon in resident evil: retribution from the live action series because he had that voice tone that the previous leon's had in the video games and worked with Matthew Mercer in the past to do the voice dub for the movies. now for the gameplay thank god there's FINALLY NO MORE TANK CONTROLS SMH but there's a small problem that i've notice the run animation is extremely slow and bad because u can't get out of the way fast enough from incoming enemies even resident evil 6 had a better running animation then this game to me the problem with capcom games is that the controls for their games are always wonky in some sort of way the other issue that i have with this game is that the likeness for these heros that we all know is changed and look so bad i also hate the voice actors that they have for this game and capcom didn't want Alyson Court to reprise her role as Claire who was in the original re2 and is the staple voice claire was is in a dozens of other re games and cg flims. but when this game was first announce i was going to boycott bcuz i heard that news about Alyson Court and after i saw what these characters look like but today i gave this game a try. the pros it's extremely scary, the acting is good even though it's coming from the voice actors that i would not wanna hear gameplay: is good for the most part besides the trash running animation. and it stays close too the source materiel and the original game and plays like it's a alternate story and sort of play resident evil: biohazard without being in a trash fpp and although i miss fix camera i'm sort glad its changed

Best zombie game probably ever
Man they nailed the scariness of the zombie apocalypse so well and honestly after seeing how zombies are treated as pushovers in most modern shows it was honestly kinda refreshing, I loved how the zombies took a lot more than one shot to kill and how you have to take your time to aim. I've never played the original res 2 but I can say this game is amazing.

Excelente.
Recomendo.
