Supurb new product - must use for all growers - SCROG perfect!!!!
Just like the innovative growing fabric used in this kit, these trellises are something that should turn your head if you are a serious grower. This product concept is amazing yet simple, focusing on the SCROG (screen of green) growing technique (or can just be grown standing up like normal). I am a HUGE fan of SCROG techniques. Training your plants to fit a pre-defined space allows you to maximize space as well as ensure each branch is getting its fair share of sun and nutrients. I've been growing with SCROG for years and finally there seems to be a perfect product, all-in-one, that will help manage your branching to achieve maximum growth and harvest potential.Stand the trellis up and grow your plant almost to the height of the trellis. As your plant branches in growth, use the garden Velcro to "train" or attach each branch to a dedicated trellis wire. The trellis wires are thick, long, bendable and adjustable in every way, even allowing you to remove them from the trellis "spine" post if you have too many. When you (or the plant) is ready to enter its flowering phase, literally tip the milk-crate fabric pot forward with the trellis spine now on top and the plant canopy attached to its trellis wires. The plant will continue its growth, but in a new "up" direction after tipping it over. With the plant now flat, and each branch neatly fashioned to a trellis control arm, the plant's newly forming buds will grow very uniformly across all branches, since no branch is higher than another and no "king bud" is present to hog the majority of the nutrients. The top of the plant, as it was standing up, is now just another part of the canopy, laying down. Plants use trapped air bubbles in the tips of all new growth to determine which way is up and what branches are the highest and therefor, which branches need the most focus for nutrients. The taller the branch growth over other branches of the same plant, the larger the bubble. The larger the bubble, the more nutrients the plant funnels to that branch. This is why the tallest parts of plants grow exponentially faster than secondary branches below them. This TipPot kit fixes that, creating more uniformly sized buds across the entire plant. In additional to that beneficial bud growth dynamic, there is also the obvious benefit of increased light penetration. With the planter tipped over, all leaves now have an equal opportunity for light since you basically have a plant that is shaped like a solar panel. There are no "upper" branches to shade the lower. The normally whimpy, larfy buds at the bottom of the plant are a thing of the past. Now all buds are receiving fair nutrient levels and an even share of the incoming light. You could get really interesting with these and build a grow system around this concept, one where you could have shelves of tipped pots and florescence between each. Someone do this and post pictures!I havn't even touched on the fabric pots! HOLY COW these things are awesome when coupled with a milk crate. The crate is brand new and comes with holes pre-drilled to mount the trellis spine. It also has a drain pan included for indoor use. The cloth pots are a wonder in their own right. I purchased this kit along with a separate pack of (4) stretchy grow fabric pots and I'm amazed nothing like them is on the market. Of course there are many cloth pots that provide the same benefits as this one (air pruning, dynamic potting size, increased drainage/aeration, etc) but this one is just as good as others with added benefits such as being able to be stretched over almost any rigid growing vessel (they can stretch a lot), being able to take drip stakes and not cause major damage when removing them, and able to seal around a plant's stem to block off fungus gnats and other nasty critters. I'd also guess they have a multi-year use - especially seemingly if you use a milk crate that allows the fabric to dry out after waterings/rain. I could imagine it deteriorates if the bottom sits soaking wet 100% of the time (like anything wood). So far, I've only got small clones planted but this system is fool-proof enough for me to know that there will not be any problems. The square crate means others can fit snugly adjacent to it and the trellis reminds me of something the space station might use. This entire system is worth 5 stars for sure and Eco Grace needs recognition for bringing these products to the growing world. I'll be purchasing more of these and keeping Eco Grace on my list.
