Wonderful book
Many have heard the story of Nottingham Forest's rise to the summit of European football but not many will remember the base that they started from in division two which makes the story even more remarkable.Daniel Taylor has wrote a real gem of a book that has unearthed many anecdotes I had never heard before. Most books about the team of that period are Clough centric whereas this spreads the focus to the whole team which is for the better. In my lifetime I have seen maybe four great teams in England: Liverpool in the late 70s, Arsenal in the 2000s, Man Utd of late 1990s and that Forest team. Taking everything into consideration Forest's achievements were the most remarkable of them all.I didn't realise that their achievements were either overlooked or underrated on a wider scale as I have always took their brilliance as an accepted fact. How this team has not been honoured in the National Football Museum's Hall of Fame is bewildering. Let's hope this book gives them a nudge to rectify this glaring omission to the ranks of the great and the good.

Seen the film? Read the book too!
Being a Nottingham Forest fan my views are obviously slightly biased; however, this really is an excellent book and can be enjoyed by Forest and non-Forest fans, and sport and non-sport fans alike. That's because a) it's very well written and b) the story of unlikely success from obscurity is one that translates to many walks of life, not just sport and football. While the book covers broadly the same ground as the excellent film, that's not to say you should pick one or the other. I saw the film first and thoroughly enjoyed it; and while I could recognise some of the dialogue in the book from the film, there's certainly enough original content in the book to make it well worth the purchase. If you're a Forest fan you'd be daft not to get this. Even if you're not, give it a try and enjoy the trip back to a time when football was a very different animal from the polished, corporate beast it is today. A time when a team could rise from near the bottom of the second tier to be Champions of Europe in no time at all. Enjoy it - it'll never happen again.

I can't stand football but I simply loved reading this book
Let me set the scene - I can't stand football and have no interest in Nottingham Forest. I bought it because of a mild curiosity about Clough ever since I watched The Damned United. I couldn't put this book down. It's one of those books I wish didn't have an ending, my precious evenings catching a few pages each time simply won't be the same.I submerged myself in the whole experience, so well written was this book. I fully recommend it, even to people who don't really like football.

Reading is believing !
Entertaining and inspiring...even though these guys beat my own club (HSV) in the European Champions Final 1980, I admire the team built from scratch by Taylor/Clough during that special time. It may be doubtful if Clough would be as succesful today as he was then, but basically it is just a matter of putting your trust in people and see what they can achieve. The old question remains - see the movie or read the book first ? I found it great to start with the book, read up to the first league promotion, then watch the movie and continue reading. If I would need to decide between book and movie, I'd go for the DVD...the only little setback of the book is the rather small selection of pictures presented here, as I think the images from that time of football are just too great to be missed. Well, actually the foreword of Jose Mourinho could be skipped...about as dull as a Chelsea game. But then the fun starts and I could not put it down before the last page.

Superb
I grew up in Derby supporting the 'Rams' and experienced the Clough & Taylor miracles first hand. The feeling of loss when their resignations were accepted was numbing and when Forest announced him as their new manager as well as feeling gutted that he was installed at our arch rivals, I had a nagging feeling of what might happen next, especially after he was joined by his old friend. This book fully deserves my 5 star rating as it transported me back to those incredible years and the mighty achievements of that Forest side. It was impossible not to admire them and this wonderfully descriptive story hits the mark perfectly.

... i'd heard it all when it came to those wonderful years. However
As a long time Forest fan I thought i'd heard it all when it came to those wonderful years. However, this delightful companion to the film unearths some gems in terms of quotes and stories. Who would have thought The Trees were the first ( and possibly only ) club to lose a player during a game due to a rat bite? As illuminating on football in the seventies as it is a tale of Forest. Highly recommended.

Young Man, well done
Yes I do. The story of Nottingham Forest's rise from the ashes under the managerial team of Clough and Taylor brings back so many memories. You forget this may never happen again in the Champions league and yes I am writing this in a year where Leicester are leading the Premiership. The jigsaw needed all the pieces to fit even when they should not have done. Great Story well written.

Absolutely fantastic. A great docu-film about the rise of Brian ...
Absolutely fantastic. A great docu-film about the rise of Brian Clough and Nottingham Forest FC. A mix of interviews with the players of the time and footage of the matches that put them where they got. Add to that a great soundtrack and you've got the lot. I've seen this DVD at least 5 times now and still love it. For anyone who is interested the Kindle version is well worth getting as it goes into deeper details but still retains the same feeling. For those who remember and those who can't it's a total football must have.
