It's Delicious
I love this book! So interesting and informative and funny! I have had so many laugh-out-loud moments I can't believe it. She is so honest and tells everything, even the bad and sad times of her husband's congressional and presidential years. I wasn't crazy about George H.W. Bush before, but after reading this I have changed my mind about what a kind and conscientious man he was and is. A wonderful book worth reading about so many important people in politics and even celebrities they knew, and especially about their large and entertaining family. She teased her son George W. all through the book, and he enjoyed every minute of it; so did I. I have devoured every page.

Funny, Enlightening, Memoir
This memoir is a perfect blend of autobiographical information in the Bush political life, and the characteristic humor that defines the former First Lady. Mrs. Bush takes the reader through her early days, her courtship with the future President, and their lives all the way through the White House years. The book is part diary entry, part commentary, part, autobiography. It is a must read for any history buff, Bush fan, or any person who enjoys a light hearted read.

was sad, but they did everything they could to get ...
It is most enjoyable, as she has apparently kept a diary over the years as to people she met and places they traveled to when he was Ambassador to the UN, and special representative to China, and RNC Chair, and she moved so many times!. She surely kept busy with their five childen. Accompanied by a woman they employed to help with the children who were very small, who stayed with the family for many ,many years) Barbara drove back and forth from Houston to Kennabuckport every summer to visit family. The details of the little daughter's bout with the cancer, leukemia, was sad, but they did everything they could to get her the very best medical treatment, taking her to Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute in NYC, but she did not live. Of course, in their position, she had to entertain a great deal, and George was always inviting as many as 15-20 for dinner each Sunday after church, as he , needed to be "the diplomat" at all times, and it paid off in many ways for him, his family and the country. She loves to read, and can write very well, and one just wants to keep on reading chapter after chapter. I am about half way of the book, but it is quite informative about a family with political ties, great energy, and very close. Mrs. Bush is a very strong woman, has raised a remarkable family, and I recommend it heartily, but also it is just a good read. Thanks, Jo Ann Wine,M.D.

Inspirational! - put your politics aside and read this as a human being
I just began reading this book (kindle version) and I liked it enough already to come here to post a 5 star review. I have always been inspired by the kind and compassionate first lady Barbara Bush. It's quite clear that she cared deeply for others and for her family, especially as an "enforcer" to her grand children. This type of selfless, unconditional devotion to family is a rarity these days - that really hits home for me as my own mother had so selflessly devoted her entire life to her family and loved ones, especially me. My own mother recently passed away and occasionally I am flipping through these pages a few minutes at a time to help me to escape. Forget your politics. This is a book for compassionate human beings.

A funny, inspiring and emotional piece of world history everyone everywhere should read!
To be honest the initial reason I purchased this outstanding book was to illuminate more on the life and achievements of President George H. W. Bush whom I always admired since childhood. However, by reading Barbara's remarkable life memoirs I discovered another, among many, more fundamental reason for the former President's appeal: the core values that both George and Barbara shared which if fully appreciated today I am sure would make the world a better place!

A Well Lived Life
First Lady Barbara Bush left her own distinctive mark on the world. She adored her husband and family and contributed immensely to the great cause of literacy. The biggest fault I found with this book was the repeated references throughout to her "great" friends. It got a bit tiring to hear everyone described that way. I enjoy a long book, but this one could have used some editing. I don't care to read about every delicious meal she enjoyed. That said, there were many interesting anecdotes and colorful descriptions of her travels to foreign countries. I admire the lady.

A woman who has seen and done it all.
As the wife of what some would call the "Last true gentleman president" (GHW Bush), and the mother of a US President (George W. Bush), this is a powerful lady with some things to say, and you should listen. Raising kids nowadays is not easy, Barbara Bush helps to put everything in perspective. She's nobody's fool and knows a thing or two. She's also quite funny.A good read.

A pleasant memoir
I was a bit disappointed in Mrs. Bush's memoir. It seemed drawn out.....rather boring actually. The last few chapter concerning the campaign and after seemed to bring more interesting. Mrs. Bush calls every person mentioned in the book a friend. Really????!!! That is hard to comprehend.Pleasant read but again disappointed cause she didn't tell any of the "good stuff."
