Legends Never Die . . .
Ratchet and Clank are my heroes. They are the stuff legends are made of. Ever since I popped the original "Ratchet and Clank" game into my PS2 I've been hooked, and the series just kept getting better through the course of the three games that make up the original trilogy. Yes, Insomniac's epic saga of a lethal but lovable Lombax and his diminutive but dedicated robot sidekick, though it has had its rough spots (Ratchet: Deadlocked, Size Matters, All 4 One), has never failed to remind me why it is that I love it so much. The series' near perfection in its dynamic characters, epic storytelling, endlessly fun gameplay, eye-popping art style, and witty adult humor long ago made it my favorite videogame series of all time. Just like any good legend, Ratchet and Clank are alive and well years after their maiden voyages took place. And now fans new and old can experience these voyages in HD. I am blown away by the improvements in all three games' graphics, but especially by those of the original game. Being ten years old, this title definitely needed a graphical upgrade and it certainly got it. "Ratchet and Clank" now looks as good as or better than anything on the PS2 and that is very gratifying. The same goes for R&C 2 and 3 as well. Another thing that I noticed was the very welcome addition of trophy sets for each of the titles. Personally, I would have bought this collection even if trophies had not been included because I have never needed any extra incentive to immerse myself in these stellar games; however the trophies are a nice touch, giving me just one more reason to keep playing. The bottom line is all three games look excellent with noticeably improved graphics. The games, as far as I can tell are not changed in any other way (good thing). And the experience is as exhilarating as ever. What more can one ask from an HD remastering? Rather than prolong this review with more praise for my most beloved game series I will end by saying that for fans like me there was no question of whether or not to buy this collection. These classics are worth every penny. And if you, like me, have nearly worn out your PS2 copies of each of the three games included, this collection is not just a desire, it's a necessity. Lastly, to newcomers to the series I would simply say that I have never enjoyed three videogames as much as I have enjoyed the Ratchet and Clank original trilogy, and at the amazingly low price of 30 bucks these gaming gems should not be missed.

I've been waiting for this!
When I first got my PS3 I was a little disappointed selling m PS2 so I could afford it. I was left with all 4 original Ratchet and Clank games sitting on the shelf. Little by painfully little I sold my PS2 games off. But I held off on selling those 4, hoping some patch would be wired so that I could play them on my non backwards compatible machine. However I grudgingly sold them and they slowly drifted into the past. Now, about a year ago when the GoW collection got released. This spiked my hope. I was one of the 2000 or so that sent a petition to make a R&C collection. I searched all over each Google page. I even went to page 2 of the Google search. :) Then my patience was rewarded when I saw this! And my passion for R&C got re-ignited with the goofy, sarcastic, and power packed gem that is R&C. Obviously I don't need to go into any review for the original trilogy since we all know how great it is otherwise you wouldn't be here. But let's focus on the HD re-release. First off I have beaten all 3 and gotten most of the trophies. (All except 3 on R&C 3) So I feel that I know the game well enough to make a good review of it. The first thing you'll notice is the main menu. And while I enjoy the little commercial esque scenes on which game you highlight. I must point out that switching between the 3 is a PAIN. You sometimes have to press left or right like 4 or 5 times for the menu to notice and if you accidentally click on one you didn't mean to pick you have to restart your PS3 since there's no in game switching. Now after you get into the games you'll instantly feel right at home with the controls. They're exactly like their old counterparts. And the graphics are much more crisp, they're aren't blocky like they use to be. Now, don't expect Uncharted material here, but the graphics are smooth. Virtually no loading screens and no choppy scenes like some HD remakes. Now for the trophy support. Personally I love trying to get all the trophies. It makes playing and replaying seem exciting. Sweating your hands off just for that one more trophy. However, one game in particular, the original, seems like they tried way too hard. Some of trophies just seem like they aren't worth getting if you don't know a glitch past them. For instance, the 1,000,000 bolt trophy. If you just blast through the game without buying anything but necessary. You'll end up with around 300,000 bolts.... 4 playthroughs!!!??? In the original there was a way to get past it, but they took that glitch away. So in other words if you don't find another glitch you have to beat the game 4 times, which seems a little ridiculous considering it's the weakest of the 3. But I digress. It's still a fun and engaging challenge for even the most experienced R&C player. Unfortunately there are rumors that the PS4 will not be backwards compatible at all. If that's the case I think I'll hang on to my PS3 and keep playing this extremely addictive trilogy! ;)

Still Holds Up
I played these games every year they came out; I'd definitely call myself a longtime fan. So keep that in mind as you read this. XD First of all, Insomniac and Idol Minds did an -excellent- job of porting these games. They play extremely well and they look great, which is saying something considering they used to be on the PS2. The fact that these games look good is a testament to Insomniac's original design - mainly the art style and use of colors. It's especially nice to play games that look like this after the flood of "realistic" brown we keep getting these days. As for the games themselves, I think the only one that doesn't really hold up is the first game, and that's mainly because it's lacking so many of the features that were added in the second game and have come to be known as mainstays of the series, such as strafing and weapons leveling up. The game is still worth a playthrough for lifelong fans just for the nostalgia trip, but you probably won't play it again. The second and third games, though, are -still- excellent, extremely fun and offering a ton of replay value. They also look a lot better (the transition to HD having been much kinder), and they play really well. This is a perfect time to pick this up. If you're a longtime fan or have never played the series before, either way this is a great buy, and you'll get a lot of value considering the time you'll spend playing these (especially if you go for all the extras, which can over double the playtime of each game). The humor and gameplay and even graphics all still hold up. I say buy this now, and once you're done start on the Future series on the PS3. You'll likely come to love the quirky humor and ridiculous weaponry of this series as much as anyone who was there from the start.

great collection, but kind of glitchy
As a fan of 3D platformers, which are one of my favorite genres, I'm frankly sad to see that they don't seem to make nearly as many as they used to. For the critics of that type of game (even I think they tend to have at least SOME bad camera angles), that may not be a problem, but for me it's a bit of a drag. (This isn't to say that I've really cared for EVERY one I've played.) But what can you do, I guess. Being such a fan of that genre and of R&C, there was no way that I could resist writing a review for this collection at some point! Since the three games in this collection are such "classic" and well-known games, I'm not going to go into detail about how they play or what they're about. But I WILL say that while I like all three games, the first one is my favorite. They did improve some things in the other two, particularly the interface, but still, the first one is the one I like most overall. (I can't be the only one who finds the ending of Ratchet 2 --- which IS a good game --- to be about the lamest in the history of video games, or at least in the games they've played!) I don't really understand some criticisms I've read about the controls. However, while these are fun games and it's great to have them all on one HD collection (they look GREAT!), they're kind of glitchy here; I don't recall them being this glitchy in their original PS2 releases. Don't get me wrong --- I'm not saying the collection is totally ruined because of them, or anything like that, but it's weird that they have these glitches on PS3 when they didn't have them on PS2 (again, not as I remember). The glitches I've seen (or heard, in some cases) include some minor but sort-of weird graphic ones (especially Big Al's graphic on Ratchet 1, which looks like the "parts" don't come together quite right), and some rather irritating sound glitches, where the sound of something continued for a long time after it should have stopped. Also, when selecting weapons from your arsenal, it can sometimes take a couple tries or so before the games actually arm you with the one you selected, as they don't change the weapon at all or even give you the wrong one! The biggest glitch to occur so far on my copy of the collection has been the game freezing (on Ratchet 3), but that's been the ONLY freeze-up so far. (Each game on the collection has been played many times.) Despite these glitches, this is a great collection, and I recommend it to any R&C fan who may not have it. If it wasn't for the glitches, I probably would have given it five stars! If you like these games on PS2, I think that having the HD graphics alone would make them worth getting again on this collection!

Up your arsenal !
I received the game yesterday, so i only manage to play Ratchet and clank: Up your arsenal (which is btw my favorite game, along with God of war, for the ps2). Let me tell you something... It is still as fun as i played 5 years ago! I'm so glad they did a hd of this game, because the current R&C for the ps3 are nothing compared to this classic. (Dont get me wrong they are fantastic, but it does not have the same impact as Up your Arsenal). If you havent played any R&C, this is your chance to buy this game. It combines the first 3 r&c on the ps2: Ratchet and clank, Ratchet and Clank: commando and Ratchet & Clank: Up your arsenal. The Ratchet & Clank series is like a mix of platformer and 3rd person shooter type of game, with lovely characters and funny setting. I havent played the first two but I going edit this later when I played, but for now, I can tell you that Ratchet and clank is addicting!!, leveling your weapons, and buying weapons, collecting bolts (money), finding hidden treasures make this game amazing ! Once you start playing it is Very hard to put it down, you want to see what is going to happen next... So for $30 dollar, I highly recommend to buy this game to anyone who have a ps3,no matter if you played on the ps2 6 years ago or even if you dont like fluffly characters, this game is extremely fun. Heck, I would have payed $30 dolars only for Up you arsenal. Also this game have trophy which makes it more addicting! Edit: I played the other 2 ratchet, and to be honest.. the first Ratchet is... terrible! controls are bad, ratchet is so hard to move around and weapons does not upgrade.. So if you are not a fan of R&C and you are no interested in the story, you wont be able to play the first cause is terrible. Luckily the second one is so much better, from there the upgrading weapon system is available and ratchet move as easy as it should be. So aside from the first ratchet, the collection is awesome!! Still in love with the third R&C: Up your arsenal, it is a masterpiece, the best in the series. It is obvious how much R&C have improved from the first one!

A Great Trilogy
I never owned many Playstation systems in my life, I always leaned toward those 'other' guys. I even went through two PS2's trying to finish Kingdom Hearts 2, but decided to not buy a third PS2 after my first two outright broke. I did have a PS3 and now that remaking older classics seems to be common place, there's no reason for me to get older Playstation consoles and also no reason for me not to play games like Ratchet and Clank. While this is not a new release it has taken me a while to get around to buying it, and it was a great buy. This game, obviously, comes with the first three Ratchet and Clank games. The graphics aren't remastered at all really, and still look PS2 worthy even in their 1080p screen time, but graphics don't make the game and these games are extremely fun. It brings me back to the times when games were made to be games, not all this VR hyper realistic open world choice based cry-over-the-characters games (not that there's anything wrong with those). Of the three I would say the second Ratchet and Clank is my favorite with the third being my least favorite. The stories are hilarious, the combat is great (although I despise how they give you so much nanotech in the later two games but enemies do so much damage you die in 3 hits anyway, even with armor upgrades), and they're all extremely memorable even for today. I was glad to be able to experience them all and recommend this to people who haven't played the games before, or for people who have and want to relive the glory of Ratchet and Clank.

Great Compilation
I have played video games for many years, but never played R&C prior to getting a PS3. I got really hooked on R&C after playing the Ratchet and Clank Future games on PS3 and had a desire to play the previous generation versions of the games. Since I donated my PS2 system to a college research project and my backward compatible PS3 had a heat stroke, this compilation was my chance! This is a phenomenal deal to get three full games that are upconverted to HD and 3d on one disk. The quality of the graphics are not current generation quality but are very crisp and clean - you have to remember these games were originally created for the prior generation systems. I have played them in 3d some, and the effect is probably a little bit less pronounced than with current generation games that are created with 3d in mind. This is not a knock on the game, just an opinion. Controls and sound are also very solid. If you have never played a Ratchet and Clank game, look it up on the internet to see if you may have any interest in the type of game play. If you like the adventure/platformer genre, quit reading this and buy it now. The humor of the series and the over-the-top weaponry make these games a blast to play. If you have played them before and want to relive your glory days, buy it. Obviously, they are the same games that were previously released, but it is really cool to start with the first game and see how the series progressed over each title. This is the best PS3 compilation that I have and I obviously highly recommend it.

Exactly what it should be.
There isn't much to be said about this. It is a compilation of the first three R&Cs on one disk with updated graphics and trophies. It's exactly what you'd expect for an updated re-release. Now because I don't want to leave this review at that... I've noticed that when A LOT is happening on screen at once, the game starts to go in slow motion, which is obviously a flaw, but I actually find it kind of cool; I even deliberately make it happen sometimes. Regardless, it goes away as soon as things clear up, like as soon as all the explosions your making go away and you've absorbed all the bolts when there is a mass in your vicinity. Trophies are a good incentive to finish each game one hundred percent; not that they aren't fun enough on their own to do so anyway. A tad bit disappointing, though, that some are just skill points. Not a big deal, but it's something. One thing that this collection has done for me is made me appreciate the advancements of the series. The addition of strafing was insanely useful and it is VERY annoying having to Pause the game and go into the gadgets section to reach a gadget you need for this ONE part of the level. You could put them all on your wheel, but then you'd have to do the same for weapons. Don't appreciate what you have till it's gone indeed. Very fun games and an insanely good deal. These collections are great bang for your buck. If your a fan and just want to play the old games again or if you just need something that'll eat up some time, don't hesitate to nab this!

Pick up & Play
This oldie but goodie will be my son's second video game after the Sly Cooper Collection for PS3... it was purchased as a Christmas gift and will no doubt provide hours of entertainment and adventure that a kid could ask for.
