Hylo Brown recorded seven albums for Rural Rhythm Records in the late 60 s with Lee Sutton as producer. Sings Country Gospel Songs was the second of the seven albums and was originally released in 1967. Uncle Jim O Neal, creator of Rural Rhythm Records, was the architect behind Hylo Brown performing all the standard traditional songs that have been handed down through the generations on these seven classic albums.About 1967, Hylo Brown and his group began recording for Rural Rhythm. Hylo recalled, We did seven albums for Uncle Jim (O Neal). I enjoyed doin those, but the only thing was that it was hard to work up the songs that Jim wanted. He wanted all P.D. traditional songs. So he wanted all folk songs and I tell you, he wanted twenty songs on an album and it was a lot of hard work. I did a lot of research on some of the mountain ballads and folk songs on all seven albums. This 1967 Rural Rhythm recording by Hylo Brown included his Timberliners who were Jack Casey (guitar), Danny Milhon (dobro), Ross Branham (banjo), John Maultbay (fiddle) and Dick Brickless (bass). Produced by Lee Sutton, Sings Country Gospel Songs features many traditional gospel standards from past generations preserved here on this gospel album performed by a true Country & Bluegrass legend, Hylo Brown.
