Got rid of my food mill because too hard to push and my fingers hurt badly. This oxo product is so much better. **Q: Will it remove seeds and skin from raw tomatoes?** A: I did not cook my tomatoes before using the mill, and that's exactly what I used it for-- to remove skins and seeds. I dipped the whole tomatoes in scalding water for a minute or two to loosen the skins, but did not cook them. **Q: Has anyone made scuppernong pies or cobblers with this food mill? My present food mill reacted with the fruit and discolored it..** A: I have not made fruit pies or cobblers, but it did not react with tomatoes which are also high acid. I have fermented Muscadine grapes, a variety of Scuppernong in a stainless stock pot with no problems. My guess is your old one was not pure stainless. I used to to push the briefly cooked fruit through a sieve using a wooden spoon to remove the pips (which we find annoying when they get between your teeth!) - using this OXO food mill is so much easier and quicker. More of the fruit can be sieved at a time and it takes less effort to do so. Turning the handle backwards regularly (say a couple of turns backwards for every dozen or so forwards) helps mix up the fruit and ensures a better sieving action. The pulp pushed through was very nearly pip free (I used the middle sieve) and what was left in the OXO food mill was fairly dry. Assembling and cleaning up after use is easy.
