Really good product and handy when your cleaning your soldering iron tip

Mends neglected tips
Used to restore the tip on an old Antex iron. Works better than I was expecting, result is not like brand new but its close. Regarding the product picture and another review which says the sponges are not 10mm thick as advertised: they begin life very thin, almost like cardboard, but expand when wetted to look like the picture. The 10mm probably refers to the 5 dry ones stacked up. In short I think the description is fair when you understand how the things work. You would not want/need one 10mm thick in the dry state. The wire balls look and feel like copper to me, not copper plated steel as someone suggested. Yes it sticks to a magnet, but weakly - some kinds of brass do that, because of a small amount of iron. It works as it should, and isn't sharp to the touch.

Good starting kit
good quality still using the brass cleaners and the tip cleaner, reasonable price especially if you're just dipping your toes into it. the brass cleaners come with a little pot so the solder falls into the pot making it easy to clean up after.

Not brass, will damage your tips
The "brass" cleaning balls are chinese fakes. Brass is not magnetic, they're copper coated steel. Copper coated steel is harder than the coating of your soldering iron tips, so it will wear it out faster. Once that coating is damaged, solder/flux will "eat" the tip. The tinning paste, used it a couple times with little success. Normally a couple stabs into a real brass ball, apply flux/solder, and repeat a couple times is enough to clean a tip. Tinning paste is a last resort in my experience and doesn't really work as the coating of the tip is usually perished beyond repair.
