The HD arrived on time and works fine in my antique 2005 Medion laptop.The drive arrived on time and is a Hitachi TravelStar 5K160, model number HTS541680J9AT00. It is as advertised (80GB, 2.5", IDE) - with one important exception: it may not be new judging from a Spinrite level 2 scan reporting non-empty sectors (but no unrecoverable errors), and Linux Mint 11 reporting the following SMART data: Power-on hours: 2.4 years Load/unload cycle count: 11794That apart Spinrite found no errored sectors, and the SMART data reports no errors.Support page (manuals etc) : http://www.hgst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/products/Travelstar_5K160.Would have awarded 5 stars if it were new.The vendor kindly paid back £3 on the listed 'as new' price when I pointed out to him that it wasn't actually brand new.

Drive arrived fairly quickly, but with all pins 'crushed' together, unsure if this was due to transportation (which could be improved).I could not wait for any replacement to be sent (time critical), but was able to 'repair' the pins and fit the drive, which worked fine.I know that these older IDE drives are not as readily available (and more expensive) but was surprised to see that this was over 4 years old - warranty of course on these items are now only 1 year from supplier rather than up to 3 years from manufacturer.

It's still going after a year if that's any help. Tested it, all good. SMART showed it was indeed never used.

I got that for my Mam's ancient laptop and it works well, no hassle with anything. She's delighted. Product arrived well protected in bubble wrap and ESD bag. Highly recommended.

Item was exactly as described, and was compatible with the laptop it was purchased for. I has been fitted, original OS cloned over and is working perfectly well, although it`s early days yet, if anything changes in the near future, I will update review.

I bought this to rejuvenate an older machine that had a much smaller drive, it works great - I cloned the system using Macrium reflex using a cheap IDE to USB connector - it took 4 hours, which was down to the way I did it rather than any reflection on the drive. Once I swapped it over it goes faster than the original and is twice the size - so i am happy, especially as most work is done on line which is now the bottleneck.

Works perfectly and was very affordable. Was purchased as a replacement drive for an almost 10 year old laptop and was easy to install and had the laptop working perfectly within a few hours.

I bought this item along with the recommended enclosure so that I could test several other HDD's collected over the years. The Hitachi hard disk worked perfectly but please note that if you are using it as a backup disk it does need initializing first through control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management, in windows xp and 7. A great buy for either getting that old computer going or as a backup disk.
