Back for a Second System!
After installing a system over my mom's 10' front window, she was excited to have her 8' bedroom window converted to a power system as well. Her grip isn't strong anymore, and the string-pulled drapes were becoming a problem. Now with the remote on her nightstand, she can open the drapes when she wakes up to see the beauty outside, even before she gets out of bed. She says she feels "fancy" with the remote-controlled drapes. These cost a bit more than other systems, but have been fairly easy to install. All of which is a small price to pay for the things she's done for me. If you are able, I recommend everyone do this for a special person in your life!A few details I've learned: I ordered lengths wider than the window so the opened, bunched drapes wouldn't block any of the view. This is easily done by measuring the current bunched drapes and adding that to the system length, providing you have the space on either side of the window. I added 18" on each side for the 10' window, but wished I added 20"-24". I added 12" on either side of the 8' window, but wished I added 18". HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER, the extra width I added stretched the fully-closed, pleated drapes I reused to their maximum. It's a good thing I didn't go any wider, or the reused drapes wouldn't have closed all the way! Therefore, if you plan on making the system reveal the entire window (which I recommend if you have the space on each side), then replacement drapes may be in order. The other thing I learned from the two installations, is some of the wheels of the rolling hooks can squeak a little. If the motor wasn't so whisper-quiet, you might not notice. I ended up carefully applying a little garage-door lube to every pair of wheels, and what a difference it makes! Learn from me and do this while the rod is on the ground or table instead of waiting until it's installed overhead! (Like I did...)

Very well-engineered automatic curtain opener and closer
My wife and I occasionally travel and like to make sure the plants get good sunlight during the day. We have been thinking about some automatic way that the drapes could open and close. I researched and discovered the automatic drape system and was impressed with the concept and what looked like an excellent value for the money. After looking over the design and reading some of the reviews, I decided to order a CL-920A. It took some figuring to make sure that I ordered the right length, and the FAQ instructions on the website were especially helpful. The CL920A arrived about a week later packed in a large heavy cardboard tube. As I unpacked the unit, I was impressed at the well-thought out design and packaging. As a career electrical software and hardware product designer at HP, it was easy to spot the obvious attention to detail and careful engineering that went into the design. When initially unpacking the unit, I noticed that there was a wrapper and note around one end of the folded curtain rod that had indicated a longer length had been shipped than I ordered. I made a phone call to the firm, --- they answered and within a few minutes determined that I could ignore the longer length marked on the paper. This was a call I made on a late Friday afternoon. It’s nice in today’s market to be able to call someone and get immediate personal attention to an issue. I really appreciated that. They wanted to make sure that I had a success and encouraged me that if I had any trouble in assembly to please give them a call.Well, that call was never needed. The assembly was straight forward and the instructions were clear. The majority of the work was in mounting the wall brackets to the window sill. Plan on several hours for measuring out and installing the mounting brackets – this part has nothing to do with the automatic curtain company—it had to do with the construction done on our homes. I had to make an additional trip to the local lumber yard to purchase a special self-threading metal attachment screw as the wall right above the window had metal reinforced edges. All of the automatic curtain-related assembly was quite straightforward. The only recommendation I would have would be that they print the instructions with photographs in color rather than black and white as it would have made the different pieces involved stand out better. These were available on line and that helped. Once I figured it out, things went quite smoothly. The best part was how quiet the unit was, and how it easily opened and closed the drapes, all under remote control of my Alexa home control system. I was so impressed that I immediately have turned around and purchased a second unit for another window treatment. I’d highly recommend this product for others. You do need to be fairly handy for the mounting of the brackets to the wall. If this isn’t your thing you may want to hire out this portion.
